limewire doesn't launch

Hi ! I'm under mac os 10.5.7 with L.W Pro which worked wonderfull till this morning. I did an upgrade for Java this morning. It was an Apple upgrade. But, since this upgrade limewire (5.1.2 version) bounces once in the dock but doesn't launch ! If I try a second time to launch LW it doesn't even bounce no more.
I deleted the program and reinstalled it...repared authorisations, checked the disk, but nothing helps. I also tried to install the "normal" version in 5.1.3 but same result !

All help is welcome !!

Lord of the Rings June 16th, 2009 05:39 AM

Did you do a 'safe' boot & repair permissions?
Delete your LW preferences folder (however remove the old Downloads.dat file before trashing the folder.) See if LW starts up at all. If it does, close LW & put the old downloads.dat file back inside the preferences folder. Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX

If still not working, you could try the LW beta LimeWire 5.2.2 (Beta) - Lime Wire & even try one of the older versions see if it works at all. There is a Pro Beta version found at right side of your Pro download page, likewise for older versions. But to install an older version you'd need to first remove the install limewire.pkg file from the Library -> Receipts folder.

vosgpat June 16th, 2009 05:59 AM

Hi! Thanks for your fast answer !!
I did remove ALL of the LW Pro ; throw away the install.pkg, repair authorisations, checked disk. Réinstalled a "normal" version 5.1.3 but still no effect. The icon bounces onces and that's it. I tried to move the Java in their preference file : nope;
The only change between yesterday and this morning was the apple Java update. Yesterday LW worked perfectly, after update it doesn't even want to launch...

I'll try the beta version and let you know.

vosgpat June 16th, 2009 06:18 AM

Hello again !
I downloaded and installed LW5.2.2 beta and it works ! But I don't remember the email adress I used to get my former Pro version (5.1.2) so I guess I'll have to pay again....snif !!

vosgpat June 16th, 2009 12:52 PM

I'm sorry to come back with bad news.... I did buy today which I thought to be the 5.2.2 Pro version, but it found out to be the 5.1.3 version. Where can I find the 5.2.2 Pro beta version without paying again ??
Since I did an Apple upgrade for Java this morning, ( Mac OS 10.5.7) my older version (5.1.2 Pro) refuses to launch. Same for 5.1.3 version. Only the 5.2.2 version works well, but I got the 5.1.3 version, while I thought to pay for the 5.2.2 version. Not really clear your download pages... As for pesonal download page ??? Never seen

Thanks in advance for your explications and help !!:(

You will see a link half way down to the right.

vosgpat June 16th, 2009 01:53 PM

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate ! Got it downloaded and it works fine. Just one remark : The LW icon in the dock is not stable, the red spot is not round and the numbers are aside...
Not really important, but might as well say it.
I will come back in a couple of days with my impressions about this beta.
Have a nice day !

I recall seeing something similar. Cannot recall where or when. I was unable to use LW 4.18 or 5 last year or first part of this year. I'd been using LW 4.16. I installed a 2nd OSX on a different drive & LW 5 runs fine there. Then one day not too long ago I gave LW 5 another go on my main OSX & it worked. It's my guess one of the OSX updates fixed something.
In your scenario, I'm wondering if that last Java update has somehow not installed as well as it should. One possibility is you download either the standalone Java installer & reinstall it, else the OSX Combo installer. The Java installer might tell you there's no update needed, I'm not sure.

vosgpat June 16th, 2009 10:04 PM

Yes, I also have been thinking about a bad install, but everything seemed to go well and the installer program didn't mention any problem.
I try to do all the updates that Apple proposes via the automatical update system. The yesterday's update was only for Java but that's all I remember.
LW was turning during the download of this update. I had to reboot the computer after the Java install and, surprise, LW didn't launch no more ! Of course I tried to repare authorisations, check disk, check Java preferences... Nothing helped... So I deleted my LW Pro and tried, at your recommandation, the beta version 5.2.2 Basic. And that worked well. But I didn't hear anything else about this problem on other forums, so I think I might have an incomplete install ( which seems almost unbelievable) or some other problem which I still have to find. I hate unsolved problems...:laugh_2:
Where can I drop my remarks about the beta version ?

Have a nice day !

Lord of the Rings June 16th, 2009 10:23 PM

LimeWire Forums

There will be an offline standalone Java installer. http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...05update4.html
Online installers are known to be a little trouble-some sometimes.
If you had LW running during the update process, then that in itself may have corrupted something.

BTW I'm sorry I updated to the latest Safari. It's hopeless compared to last version. It just crashed on me & has been so slow & unreliable since the update. And it's been a PITA to use. I'm strongly considering downgrading my safari.

vosgpat June 16th, 2009 11:45 PM

Hi !
I said that LW was running during downloading... NOT during updating, because this updating happens after the reboot of the mac when it shows this galaxie screen.
But how to do with this link ? If I try to install it, will it replace the Apple update ?

astrolabe1976 June 17th, 2009 06:39 AM

I'm having the exact same problem as vosgpat. Downloaded new java update for OS X, and then Limewire wouldnt work. I fixed permissions as people suggested, re installed the java update, then nothing. Downloaded limewire beta 5.2.2, then it worked.

Lord of the Rings June 17th, 2009 06:45 AM

Thanks for letting us know astrolabe1976 :) Not sure why the beta would do the trick but has in past.

Sometimes reinstalling Java will fix a prior installation what might not have gone 100% well. It will not replace the apple update. It is the most recent Java update but is the Offline installer, where you have control over the installation, not a software program running in the background that is in control with the installation.

I'm not sure whether your system will allow you to install it as you might receive a message saying no update needed.

These types of issues with mac's system update not doing a 100% satisfactory job has been happening for many years on odd occasions for some people. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/mac-os...cing-dock.html. Online installing of Java for windows users can also sometimes be an issue (corrupt/incomplete installation).

beni189 June 17th, 2009 08:48 PM

me 3

im also experiencing this issue... using lw5.1.3 on mac 10.5.7 . did java update yesterday, now lw will bounce once in dock and not open. uninstalled, deleted all pref files via appcleaner and reinstalled 5.1.3 and getting same results. please fix :bangh:

cezi June 18th, 2009 04:49 AM

same problem here, after installing new safari and java, lw will not launch any longer :mad2:

Lord of the Rings June 18th, 2009 06:49 AM

Try the LW Beta 5.2.2 as that seems to have solved the issue for some people: LimeWire 5.2.2 (Beta) - Lime Wire.

Other than that, has anybody tried re-installing the Java using the Standalone offline installer listed above in post #10? Doing this used to fix similar issues for some people a few years ago. :)

5.2.2 works, but i had the 5.1.1 pro version with turbo dl spead (real?) and 5.2.2 is definitely not a pro version...

Lord of the Rings June 18th, 2009 08:53 AM

If you still have valid Pro support (if you bought the 6/12 month support), you will find the Pro Beta version link on right side of your pro download page.

And no, LW do not hand out Pro versions betas for free so neither can I post a Pro Beta link on the forums. ;)

I guess re-installing Java is not for you. My LW 5.1.3 works fine.

vosgpat June 18th, 2009 09:21 AM

Well, seems like I'm not the only one with this problem. I did like you suggested, dear Lord, and download the last Java update as a standalone update. Quit all apps and started the installation. No weird messages saying it was allready installed or anything like that... It just installed fine and everything worked. But, I did not reinstall my 5.1.2 LW Pro version just to see if it worked now. Lost enough time allready:cool: But did send a nice mail to Apple France about this problem asking them to check what is send to clients.
But, I didn't have any problems with Safari 4. I don't use it too much, prefering Firefox, but when I use it, it works fine !
And, whre can I drop remarks about the LW 5.2.2 beta version and maybe do some suggestions to improve this horrible (and only partial) french translation ?

A nice day to everybody !

soniqkiller June 18th, 2009 09:35 AM

Same issue but different situation

Hey there, I also have the same problem as vosgpat. Although, I just tried my limewire a while ago...it did the same thing as vosgpat. The difference is, I had updated to hava 2 days ago and last night I was still able to download some songs. Fixed everything, reinstalled and all and it just bounces..

LimeWire Beta Forums
wow sorry to hear they have not fixed up the translations. They really have been working slowly upon getting LW 5 back to the standard of LW 4. LW 5.2.2 beta at least re-introduced the filters & added a size filter.

I dislike the way they use the general user as a beta tester so to speak. LW 5 came out far too early & should have remained in Alpha stage only for beta testers to check for problems. I already commented about that point too many times at their beta forums. :o lol :D

Glad to hear the Java re-installation helped stabilize LW for you. :)

vosgpat June 18th, 2009 01:33 PM

I'll take a serious look to the LW beta tomorrow and send my remarks to you...You most probably have a possibility to get it there where it should go...:whistling:

I'll done for today, 900 km's on the highway, 4 hours of meetings and I'm ready for a shower, a cocktail and lots of sleep !!

See you later...

zach1994 June 21st, 2009 09:57 AM

Sorry about the previous message, didnt see the other posts.
How do i reinstall java the way you described?

zach1994 June 21st, 2009 10:00 AM

Thanks guys. Got everything working.
Really appreciate it!

silentlodger June 24th, 2009 08:49 AM

exact same problem with LW Pro 5.1.3 and new Apple software update. Icon bounces once then nothin'. Running OS 10.5.8. Will try the Pro beta 5.2.2 after following the instructions above. cheers.

silentlodger June 24th, 2009 09:45 AM

So I turfed all my old Limewire files from my Mac, then I went back to the Limewire site to look for the beta 5.2.2 -- except they had a new Pro 5.1.4 version posted for Mac. Hmm. I wondered if this was the fix. I clicked on the Support tab. The clicked on the question "How do I get Limewire Pro if I've already paid?" They asked me for my email addy, then I downloaded 5.1.4. After the install, it launched. Just checked it out and it's working fine. 5.1.4 Pro seems to solve the problem.

vosgpat June 24th, 2009 09:54 AM

yes, 5.1.4 is ok

Hi silentlodger !
Yes, 5.1.4 doesn't have problems with the Apple Java update. Apple optimised the update for their apps, not speceially for others...

But the LimeWire staff reacted well and the 5.1.4 version is ready for downloading since yesterday. Did do a thread on that in french forum, but didn't think about doing it here.
Sorry about that :D.

Have a nice day
