Default Re-installing old versions of Limewire

I was hoping to install a new version of Limewire, as my old one is out of date. I installed the newest version, 5, and it didn't work because I don't have system 10.5, only 10.4. So I deleted what was just installed and found out that it had replaced my old version. So I went back to the site, downloaded a 10.4 version of Limewire, and attempted to install it again. When it asked me where I wanted it to install to (Macintosh HD) it said that a newer version of Limewire had already been installed, and it would replace the newer version, which is what I wanted. But when I hit the 'install' button, it said there was nothing to install, and I am now Limewireless on my computer, even after I deleted all the files and restarted.

I have a 20in. Intel mac running system 10.4.11

Well i don't know about MACs, but in Windows when you uninstall a program, it removes the actual process (the .exe in windows), but it does not delete the Application date (don't know what MAC calls that), which holds the user settings and so on, try doing a search for EVERYTHING LimeWire, so it is completely wiped from your system, no trace of it. Then reinstall it.

TheFakeSheikh's advice is mostly there. Specifically what you need to do is find the Receipts folder & remove the install limewire.pkg file, before the system will allow you to install an earlier version. Receipts folder sample image

We'd actually recommend you install LW 4.16 rather than 4.18 but that's up to you. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...downloads.html but you only need to see step 1. Steps 2 & 3 are only if you actually used LW 5 & wanted to move back to LW 4.

I have checked my receipts folder, and done a search for that name, and nothing has come up. I tired downloading and installing 4.16, and the exact same thing happens.
Does this mean it is a problem with my particular computer, and not limewire?

I understand your problem, but where i become baffled is where it says, "There is nothing to install."... ?
What is the exact message, because i've never heard anyone with this problem. Try doing a search, a proper one, with keywords. Search something like... "Limewire not opening, mac, nothing to install." Sometimes crazy searches work. Chances are 90% of the time someone has had the same problem as you.

I find that difficult to believe you do not have such a file because LW always installs a install limewire.pkg file into the receipts folder. The receipts folder is found at OSX -> Library -> Receipts. Not within your user account. The newer install limewire.pkg file must be trashed before you will be able to install an older version of LW.

Yes you should be able to find it using a computer search, try searching install & arrange results alphabetically. Do not classify search type.

Ah! I found it! For some reason it was not showing up in my search bar. Thanks for the help!
