Mac Crashes - Here The Problem..!! Part 1 Subject: Problems Getting Connected...!!! Date: Wed, 21 Dec 2005 22:38:58 +0000 From: Robert Johnston <robert@scotsite.co.uk> Organization: scotsite.co.uk To: Adam Fisk <afisk@limepeer.com> Hi Adam, I am on a Mac G3 Running 8.6 with 96K of RAM My internet connection is with NTL Glasgow -> Scotland I think the servers are if RENFREW I have tried the connection test and it came back, what is it... "Tested OK" or something? Anyway, a while ago my Limewire Basic packed up! I have now installed the latest MacClassic Version that's on your site... But I was having similar problems -> Mac Freezing & Crashing. I have went right through the Forum in the Hope of a solution, but I still can't get connected. I Un-Installed the old 2.8.5 version removed " .limewire " (folder) from the HD -> System Folder -> Preferences and threw it in the "Wastebasket" and emptied the "Wastebasket" Did a New/Clean install of LimeWire Rebooted after Clean Install Turned off Norton Anti-Virus Shut down the computer again Restarted the computer & Rebuilt the desktop And I still can't get connected. I was going to try to do the proxy server trick that's on the forum, but I can't get past go. Except once...... When I held down the "ctrl" key and clicked on open -> I did get LimeWire to open up... But I got the WARNING message "LimeWire was unable to set up a port to listen for incoming connections. Some features of LimeWire may not work as expected" And in the (JAVA CONSOLE) window is showing this message:- "LAX Version = 5.0 A nonfatal internal JIT (3.10.106(MRJ)) error 'chgTarg: Conditional' has occurred in : 'org/apache/commons/httpclient/HttpClient.executeMethod (Lorg/apache/commons/httpclient/HostConfiguration;Lorg/apache/commons/httpclient/HttpMethod;Lorg/apache/commons/httpclient/HttpStateI': Interpreting method. Please e-mail this message along with reproducible sample to jit-bugs-ppc@itools.symantec.com" I hope you know what it means...??? As I am writing this email I am getting a warning that Netscape was unable to create a network socket connection... Blah, Blah Blah, That's New...!!! So now I will have to save this in something, close down Netscape and reboot the computer. Then relaunch netscape and paste this back into an email. Well here goes...!!! I hope you can figure out what is going on here -> because I miss my LimeWire :-(. Maximum respect, Robert - - - - - - - - E N D - - - - - - - - Subject: I Got It Working.... Yeeeeeee Haaaaaa...!!!! Date: Thu, 22 Dec 2005 01:51:42 +0000 From: Robert Johnston <robert@scotsite.co.uk> Organization: scotsite.co.uk To: Adam Fisk <afisk@limepeer.com> Hi Adam, I got LimeWire working again... I Turned Off "Virtual Memory" Restarted and rebuilt the desktop/s Increased the Memory Preferred Size to 6375 K and the Minimum Size to 2125 K Turned Off my computer & Pulled Out the plug Turned Off my cable modem & Pulled Out the plug left it for a while and went and had a cup of tea... Came back and pluged the computer and modem back in Turned Off Extentions -> Held down SHIFT KEY Held down the "ctrl" key and then -> clicked on "Open" to open the Java Console LimeWire stalled again but this time id didn't totally Freeze Up... But I initially got the same ERROR MESSAGE as before!! This time I left it hanging and went and had my dinner. When I came back LIMEWIRE had started up and had connected to the Network I closed the "Do You Want To Upgrade" window. I noticed this time though in the "Java Console" that there was some extra TEXT/CODING so here it is:- LAX Version = 5.0 A nonfatal internal JIT (3.10.106(MRJ)) error 'chgTarg: Conditional' has occurred in : 'org/apache/commons/httpclient/HttpClient.executeMethod (Lorg/apache/commons/httpclient/HostConfiguration;Lorg/apache/commons/httpclient/HttpMethod;Lorg/apache/commons/httpclient/HttpStateI': Interpreting method. I even managed to download the files I was looking for VERY QUICKLY!!! So I closed it down again -> Restarted the computer - with Extentions ON - No Conflict. So I closed it down again -> Turned Virtual Memory back on -> Restarted the computer - with Extentions ON - STILL No CONFLICT. I think I've cracked it....!! OH YEEEEEEEEEEEEES. Maximum respect, Robert. - - - - - - - - E N D - - - - - - - - Hi Adam, Got a different problem now... Maximum respect, Robert. - - - - - - - - E N D - - - - - - - - Hi Adam, I have Turned Virtual Memory back off again and LimeWire Launched fine, but won't Connected to the Network when asked. Here is the Text/Code from the Java Console Window when it works:- LAX Version = 5.0 Exception occurred during event dispatching: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError at com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.GUIMediator.showDialogs ForFirstVisibility(GUIMediator.java:342) at com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.GUIMediator.access$000( GUIMediator.java:49) at com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.GUIMediator$1.run(GUIMe diator.java:325) at javax.swing.SystemEventQueueUtilities.processRunna bleEvent(Compiled Code) at javax.swing.SystemEventQueueUtilities$RunnableTarg et.processEvent(Compiled Code) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEventImpl(Compiled Code) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Compiled Code) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(EventDispatchThre ad.java) I hope this helps you... I can tell that the Java Console text/code is similar, but different, I hope you guys can read it because I haven't got a clue what it is saying, anyway hope this helps. BTW this is not the limewire site. This is a forum run by volunteers. I'm not an expert & there are some here who know a lot more than me. But we try to help how we can. My advice is to get more physical RAM! VM is a PITA, an earlier computer I had ran so slow due to VM but I needed the xtra (psuedo) ram. With that little ram, I'd recommend you designate specific times & days to use LW with VM off. Then reactivate it for your other stuff otherwise. (ie: your HDD & bus speeds will be very slow compared to what LW requires ... so VM is not really a wise option unless a very last option. Java for 8.6 is already slow & inefficient enough without slowing things down otherwise such as with VM on a slow system.) Yep allocating more ram to LW certainly won't do it any harm. BTW it's been less than 20 months since I used LW 2 on a G3. But there was 224 MB ram on it. I kept changing allocation of ram to LW depending upon how many incompletes, & shared files. It seemed in my situation that allocating too much ram when it wasn't needed actually seemed to cause issues. BUT I'm refering to a now very defunct version, AND I was using OS 8.5 which had an even more inferior Java version which was the root of all the problems. Make sure your java version is at least MRJ 2.2.5: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75097 If LW 4.0.10 isn't connecting, try deleting the LW preferences folder whilst LW is CLOSED!!! The preferences folder is titled .limewire & if you list your preferences folder by list (prefs folder found in Mac HD>system folder>Prefs folder>.limewire), you should find it at the top of the list. Then just trash it. Try with LW again & see how it goes. Tell us if it doesn't work ok. Remember, it may take LW a while to load up both your incompletes AND your shared files so give it lots & lots of time to connect. Over an hour.
