The default for LimeWire does not include .jar files. Would it be possible to add that to a future version?

You can change it in the options -> sharing -> shared extensions.

I know that, but other people might not. I have heard from one downloading the file that it stays invisible in his Shared folder. It is not neccessarily obvious.
