Talking More "Browse Host" options, please

It would be cool to have a Browse Host option in the menus somewhere so I can type in an IP or domain name to browse directly.

It would also be cool to have a browse host button on the connections page so I can browse the ultrapeer and leaf nodes that are connected to me.

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

I don't want to spoil everything, but in addition to the IP/hostname you will need the port number and that is not always 6346.

And while browsing leafs won't be a problem, browsing ultrapeers probably won't work very well. At the moment LimeWire ultrapeers are so overloaded that seem to answer to about 20% of all incoming tcp connection attempts, the rest will either timeout or be refused (running as an ultrapeer is almost like a tcp syn flood denial of service attack).

I investigated when I noticed that if running as an ultrapeer (although illegaly sharing a couple of thousand copyrighted songs) I would have close to no uploads.

Yeah -- that's a good point, trap_jaw. It could be used in conjunction with some sort of 'favorites' list, where you can click on a host to remember it, and later do browse-hosts or chats (or other future things) with it. Also the latest dev version remembers hosts that you've connected to (as an outgoing connection, not an incoming -- so it guarantees you could connect to it), and it remembers the port that you connected to, so that could be used to try and 'guess' the port.

But, you're right the Ultrapeers are very overloaded right now. Hopefully with the introduction of GUESS and the increase of intra-ultrapeer connections & associated decrease of TTL will help the load.
