Default Parental Control

I followed the steps to filter the content that could be downloaded, but when I went back to check, I found that it was still possible to download anything. I agree that a password protection should be set up-

Maybe that could be integrated into a simpler child-suited interface.

You might want to talk to the programmers of various children-specific-programs and maybe hire one as a freelancer for an interface-project only.

Here's some URLS:

Hope this helps.

And what shall be protected by a password?

Instead of reinventing the wheel use the capabilities of the Operating System to prevent the kids from using LimeWire. Create an user account extra for the kids, remove the permissions to execute LimeWire and don't forget to change the password of the current account. This can be done easily on Unices (Mac OS X, Linux, etc) and Windows NT and restricted on Mac OS Classic, Windows 9x

Why shouldn't they be allowed to use LimeWire?

I agree with arne_bab. I would like to be able to disable adult content, and to set bandwidth limits, and have those settings protected by password. That's it.

You see, I've got a 14 year old son who wants to download music, and that's OK, as long as I can have some control over what gets downloaded. But, unless I can password-protect the settings, they can be changed, and I won't know it unless I find porn on the PC.

Password protection of LW settings would be a very inefficient and ineffective way to filter porn, since so much junk isn't labelled "porn".

I've two kids also, and they have to be taught to use to internet responsibly, since there is so much out there (not just through LW). I'd be irresponsible if I depended on a password to do my parenting.

Still, if pw protection of the prefs could be easily done, it's a nice token gesture.

Else I can try if I am able to compile a version, which just keeps that preference-option out of the preferences and create a halfways childsafe LimeWire that way (by setting "Filter adult content" as true by default).

I'll look into it (but if someone else is faster, I won't be unhappy to hear it :-) )

. . . or just lock the file "limewire.props" with the system?

I don't get LimeWire compiled at the moment, so someone else will have to do it (don't have the time to find teh error...)
