Sorry, I just didn't have the patience to wait; thought this sick crap had been on the forum long enough,.....others might have come accross it and also felt "uneasy" about it......

Sorry about that i would have changed by avatar if i was online and im not trying to be sick it was just a joke. but i guess not im sorry about that thanks for not banning me :sorry:

I get the impression others have expressed their displeasure at your choice of avatar long before this, so I must ask a) if you knew that it (the avatar) upset people why didn't you offer to change it sooner, and b) why did it take the threat of being banned for you to change it at all ?

tom_in_toronto, why don't you put your pseudo-concern where it belongs? If you ever tried to understand anything beyond its literal meaning, you'd realize that what you consider an offence is actually sarcasm which pretty much dead-on in the figurative sense. Maybe you should think a while about "freedom of speech". By the way, it's 2006. Crusades are "out".

Freedom of Speech does not mean Freedom to Insult or Freedom to Cause Offence, I would have thought that 21st century man/woman would easily understand this simple premise.

However, even in these enlightened times there are still backward thinking people who think that to ridicule and insult other people is still "OK".

UK Bob, where's the logic in that? I don't see any. Anyone can declare anything an "offence". Have you ever watched a movie or a late night show? Why hasn't Conan O'Brian been put onto the electric chair yet? They could at least put him into jail. Also what about the US president? He's offending people in thousands of ways all the time. Oh wait, is this a privilege of celebrities? I guess, the poor average joe better shuts his trap, right? I demand the capital punishment for the crime called "offence". Or in other words: Kill them all, let god sort 'em out! AK-47: The highway to heaven!

1st amendment free speech rights aside, this forum is owned as is not a public place...i.e. We The Mods can do as we will, and we didn't approve of the previous avatar...so its gone...simple as that..

tom_in_toronto's post was totally uncalled for, as this thread is old history..

It is highly unlikely that we will ever agree on the meaning of "Freedom of Speech", as this has nothing to do with computers or LW, lets agree to let this one go.
