sneaky sexy download

I am new gnucleus user and couple days ago I also accidentally downloaded a porn site masquarding as a music file.

Hint for future action. Look at details of file while still in search folder results if you are using gnucleus. This might give you some hints. My download came as an rar. file and installed itself when I accidentally clicked on wrong action to decompress file with rar utility.

Ok, how I got rid of it... I am running Windows 2000 Pro and cable modem so no phone modem connect. that seemed crucial to controlling costs as program wanted to auto set-up a dial up account. Windows Add/Remove could not even "see" it. i could hardly deal with it using Windows utilities because it was linked to my ip dial-up config in Internet Explorer and was giving me error message " sharing violation". I could not remove the exe. program from my WINNT folder either with Norton. I have Norton Systemworks installed and I used the "clean sweep" utility to remove the program subfolder by subfolder from start menu\Programs\porn site\subfolder.

Finally the only portion of the program left on the desktop was the icon in my bar and I could not remove it using Norton.

I accidentally clicked on the icon in the menu bar and tried clicking on the config button. Since most of the folders were in the recycle bin I figured worst I would get is Windows error message "path not found". Was I surprised to see one of the config options was "uninstall" I clicked this and got a window "program will be uninstalled upon restart". Worked.

hope this helps.

Thanks, but s'ok now

I have gotten rid of it with the uninstall also but foudn there are files spread all over the place. Had no problems with dialup as we have cable modem and no regular modem either.

I had to go in through expolorer also and deleted a bunch and if all else fails search for x-finder, erotica, and websearch and it should find all and delete.

Very pesky thing though..........

Ok I didn't see anyone mention it but there is a program called Ad-Aware mad by Lavasoft that will scan your system and get rid of Scumware, Adware, Spyware etc. It has always worked on these scummy trojan progrms that litter my computer when I am doing un-safe surfing. Iconsider Ad-Aware to be just as inmportant as Norton AV on my computer and keep them both updated regularly. Ther is a freeware (no ads) version for just scanning and cleaning and a plus version that monitors you system and stop the crap when it tries to load. I use the freeware version. you can find it at

www.lavasoft.nu

And no I'm not connected with them in any way.

I must say I just come over all this by browsing after another problem.
There is no doubt that children are curious it's in their genes, we've all fallen prey to curiousity and of course the media doesn't help, yes there must be a way to stop porn on the world wide web but the question is, " do people want it stopped" porn is one of the biggest money spinners on this planet and there is millions capitalising on it, so I suppose the only thing we have is filters but then again they find ways of hiding it as a previous thread said.
And then come the SMART answer, "you shouldn't STEAL" is Limewire not a place for us to share files?? I understand we have a few SAINTS out there!! I don't consider it stealing, one can call it a LOAN and the person or persons I loan from will always be sure to get it back.
Lighten up we don't all have the expenditure to the absurd prices that these Program Magnets ask for. A forum is a place to give a resonable answer/solution to an irritating problem that many programs are programmed to give us bottom of the pyramid technical incompetents..........SLEEP WELL!........BigDin

I agree with BigDin. Porn is huge, and it's not going away anytime soon. If you have a mac, just get Bess or something (or something similar for windows), if you don't want you or your children to see it.

I have a 'Belt and Braces' operation, that means I have all the precautionary software available. Visiting ebay.co.uk or ebay.com which ever is appropiate I have purchased Norton Systemworks 2003 (ŁUK8.00), with www.RegVac.com which offers a trail download and then run Adware.co.uk. That plus running Windows XP Professional with a Zonealarm and an ADSL Modem/Router attached seems to keep my system clean and trouble free.

if its not fixed yet try....

EXCELLENT program..... is donation based no fees. Only program Boeing supports for deep rooted probs .... mainly Adware but get this program for todays internet world anyway. In fact I allowed Norton to permit some faulty sites through my firewall and this program cleaned up my mess - Its great!

But if these people are using DSL, with dynamic ip addresses, would banning their ip only work till their ip address next switched?

Yes, and suppose the next user that is assigned with that banned IP also has Limewire running and is sharing a lot of good stuf, you won't be able to get it.

porn filter

re getting unwanted porn files...
i have the deny adult content filter switched on, but when i have browsed some hosts i get listings of really nasty explicit sounding porn flicks; i don't dl them but what if my teenage daughter was browsing limewire??? i thought the filter would stop them from appearing at all - if not then how can i do this?

Add the most common of the words used in their titles to the Keyword filters list. So long as you don't think it will clash with normal searches. eg: words like sex, nude, ........

Personally I filter out wmv, jpg & exe. More can be added or deleted at 'any' time. SO long as you use the Apply button b/w each change.

Couple of points here. Noone can upload to you, you have to click on the file and download it. How old is your son? If he's too young to know what those files with the sick name's were, then he shouldn't have been unsupervised on the net. Sorry.
Also, if the songs he was downloading are copyrighted, you do know that is stealing, and also illegal.
No, I don't condone kiddie porn. I just can't handle people who don't have the common sense to use the internet wisely and try to blame software for their lack of it.

What the hell are you babbleing about?

Don't try and tell me that you use peer to peer programs like Limewire purely as a tool to exchange family holiday pictures and home movies. :p

(I mean getting free films and music is what the majority of downloaders are after isn't it?)
