LimeWire Sucks!!!

This has to be the worst god-awful software I've ever used! I choke with laughter every time it asks me if I want to pay for this crap. What's even more laughable is it says 8 people have worked 2 years to design this!!! They obviously were learning as they went....This software freezes my computer, the options don't work right - they don't block what I want or don't stop others from downloading - it's total crap! What's the absolute worst though is that there a lot of porno that pops up on seemly innocent searches - even disgusting child porn!! Doesn't anyone check for this stuff? Where's the feds??? Does ANYONE know a good software that ONLY downloads songs, doesn't hog computer resources and actually works properly???

Sorry you feel that way, I love it. Have been using for a long time. works great with my puter and downloads smoke. Find anything anytime.

Hope you find something that works for you!

My two cents.

Try searching on [your search].mp3. Also, I do believe there is a selection to search on songs only. That works fine in my case and returns only mp3 titles.

If you cheated by selecting a higher connection speed and have too many connections you computer will most likely run slower. Another problem I encountered is that if I go nuts and have too many downloads going at the same time (in my case it is greater than 30) the computer will sometimes appear to freeze.

As far as content goes, Limewire has absolutely no way of controlling what gets shared on the network. It does have a filtering ability for searches though. When people disguise porn as something else (some do) the filters naturally get defeated.

I have been using Limewire for a little over a year and have found it basically OK. I like some of its features that the others don't have.

As far as paying for it, I do. I don't expect a highly refined piece of software for the $9.50 they are asking. I have paid over $300 for software that had more problems than Limewire.

Good luck on your music quest.

I've been a LimeWire'er for a little over a month..... and I'm quite pleased with it... Not a single problem so far. :) I have the Pro version... wouldn't even consider a P2P client with ads & spyware garbage!!!

However, I have recently been playing around with Shareaza, and will admit that they give LimeWire Pro a real run for the money (no pun intended). ;)
Shareaza has all the features of LW, plus a few..... in a very attractive interface, with no ads/spyware, and.... no "Pro" version... completely FREE!

I'll most likely be using both clients.... I feel they're the best of the Gnutella bunch!

There is a choice to only search for MP3 files and there is a filter option where you can filter out "dirty" words.

Limewire is a very involved program that must work on a host of operating systems with a lot of people that may only know how to turn their computer on if the switch is clearly marked.

The free version is good and by paying a very small fee I was able to avoid the ads. Why would anyone expect people to write software & give it away without a hitch? How are they supposed to eat??

I have had very good luck with Limewire with minimal problems.

Once when I had failed several times in a row to get any hits on some obscure mp3's I was trying to find, I decided to test the system by typing in the first popular name that came to my mind. Do you have any idea how many porn files contain Brittney Spears in the filename? Now, I type in ******* when I want to be certain I'm actually getting my searches out there. Lots of mp3 hits, but very little accidental porn. Anyway, I prefer the anarchy of the internet over censorship of any kind. At work, I have trouble doing my job some days because their blocking software has decided that one of my information resources is a political site, so I waste valuable time having to get a special password to access it, only to have the password rapidly expire and then have to go through the whole process again.

My only complaint about Lime is that it is a bit of a resources hog and I can't do any online gaming when it's running. (If I am downloading from other sources, I can.)

Re the porn -- only place I have seen porn pitch up is if I have my upload monitor turned on. Amazing what filthy little people there are out there. There's never been a single one in response to my searches.

If you limit your searches to the minimum for it to be recognizable you will get more hits. ie don't search for a full song title or even a full artist name -- no everyone out there spells or thinks the same about what constitutes a filename.

just did a search for ********* got 21 hits twenty viruses and one legitimate answer. did another for network+ recieved 36 hits 29 viruses and seven legit. people either clean your pc's or kiss file sharing goodby the record industry wont have to do anything you will commit suicide all by yourself. do a search for norton and install it for crying out loud dont be a jerk. If its on your computer it is slowing you to a crawl also. wise up, wake up or get off the internet. Ignorance can be cured stupidity is terminal.
