Default becoming frustrated

I tell you the guntella network is becoming very frustrating. I use to could download just about anything I found using Limewire. the last month or so, every file I click on to download ends in frustration.

I get good returns to my searches, yet it does not seem to matter if I am attempting to download songs, programs, ANYTHING, I get the HATED message : "Could Not Download; Awaiting more sources" I mean EVERY TIME for WEEKS now.

Personally, if Limewire can not find enough sources then I feel guntella is dying on the VINE! I am beginning to think why do I even attempt these things anymore, 'cause I get no where in all of my attempts.

Yesterday I checked the connections tab and there must have been 30 or fourty connections, ultrapeers etc, yet still Limewire needed MORE sources to download songs and programs. This is pathetic.

The number of connections you have bears no relevance on the error message you are getting. I would recommend limiting your search results, from the preferences, to only four star results. and higher speeds. When downloading a song/file, try downloading it from multiple results and see which one works. Also, could you please post your specs (i.e. LW version number, OS, computer, how u connect to the internet and whether or not you are on a router).

I am using Limewire version 2.9.10 on a 1.0 ghz computer running XP personal. I have a cable connection with a consistant 1.1 megabit download speed. Yes, I am behind a router, which has the normal limewire port forwarded. I only show three and four star results (three NEVER works) and only cable and higher speeds are shown in my results.

People can upload from me, and occasionally I can get a file to start downloading.

Another thing that is frustrating, is when I start downloading, there is NO priority. I mean how do I jump from downloading to being in position number 8 for goodness sakes!

Alright, this is what has happened in my experience. Often, when getting a download, sometimes, I too, all of a sudden get put in line for what i was previously downloading. Usually, waiting a couple minutes, even if I'm far in the line, I start downloading. Maybe LW has trouble with queues or something, i don't know. Also, a suggestion, when downloading a file, try downloading the same thing from different sources in the hope that one will dl successfully.

Also, on your router, LW uses 6346 to accept incoming connections, but I also note in prior posts that it seems to use 6347 and 6348 as a listneing port. Can anyone corroborate this? Perhaps opening up those ports could make dls better, but I'm not sure.

Also, obviously you've disabled your hardware firewall, but do you have a software based firewall? Because if so, you have to disable that too. I don't know if XP personal has one built in that you have to turn off, but perhaps it does.

Since it seems the problem came from an upgrade, or rather, it used to work and now it doesn't, we have a couple issues. Did you install/change settings on anything that could possibly affect gnutella, LW, or your internet?

Also, when you connect, I would suggest waiting for a couple minutes to get established in the network, and then try searching to get more results. Ideally, really, try to always be connected, for many hours, because then you're more established in the network, should get more search results, and will give more uploads.

Anyone else have any ideas for this guy?

Using that while Limewire figures itself out.

Thanks Blackbird.

I use the router as my firewall solely. I have port 6346 forwareded in my router and only that port. having too many ports just makes you more vuneralble (which I am sure every one knows). Yes XP personal does have a firewall, but I do not need it while sitting behind the router so I have that turned completly off.

I have not made any changes to limewire that I feel would make it less effecient in its operation, just the normal config setting in the options catagory.
