i know this sounds lazy, but does anyone know if it is possible to paste text into the search box??? it would make life easier!!

Yes, but I found Java copy/paste on OSX here is not as easy as in most applications, and heard it's Java related.
So, the anwer is--use trial and error with your set-up for now, and hope Java will have a real edit menu Limewire can implement sometime. |

Use Ctrl+c to copy, and Ctrl+v to paste
If you use Windoze that is...... |

And a context menu with cut/copy/paste/etc would also be nice. I hear that Mac apps can have context menus too.
