Your finished downloads should not go to your incomplete folder. On a Mac check your LW Prefs & see the 1st option of 'Saving'/on pc Windows: Tools->Options and then go to saving. The path indicated there is where the files are being stored in your PC. From there use Explorer/Find to find exactly where on your Hard disk drive this is. If you have chosen to share your dwnld folder, you will find it in your Library window under whatever it's name is. Click on it's name (on top LH corner of LW's Lib window) & it will show you what files have been dwnlded to it. You can change your dwnld folder (safer if there's nothing presently dwnlding), to somewhere you can find it easily (you might want to leave a link/alias to the folder for easy access; put the folder somewhere within explorer so you can access it easily & quickly.) Follow ursula's instructions to find/create any shared folders.
If you still have any problems, do a search . There's a no of threads discussing this issue for both pc & mac! (whoops there's something wrong there, back to the text books I guess!)

Whenever you add or adjust a shared folder be sure that you press Apply & OK. When you go back to the Library window, press the Refresh button. This is similar to when u 1st open up LW, in that all the shared files are recounted (this process can take a few mins dpending on how many files you're sharing). You'll notice 2 things, one that the shared files initially turn red & then as they're accountd for turn black, also in your LW shared files no. which is located on lw's bottom-left side of the window you'll see the no. of shared files gradually increase (again as LW accounts for each & every one.) After ther process has finished you will probably also notice that your download quality has improved, perhaps dramatically, perhaps just slightly.

Remember if you don't press Apply, the changes won't take affect until the next time you open LW!

File "Sharing"?

Im sorry, but im not a sharing kinda guy. My files are mine and mine only. (plus i dont want to get a law suit over it)With that said, why cant i use the mp3 player when i turn all my sharing off!? Lime wire was perfect until this! ARGH!

Hope the files you're dwnlding are not copyright which can be traced via your ip. Your ip supplier can of course monitor such things. Your reason doesn't really stand up well.
The folders listed in your LW Library are either incomplete or shared! That's it! Sharing actually improves one's chance of connection to other peers. So if you can't play from your library, tough luck. Such people who don't share are known as Leechers!

ragnarok654 September 17th, 2004 07:49 PM

Okay. Just tell me what file to select when I go to get back just the ones I had downloaded before i clicked on stop sharing please. And keep it simple.I need my music!!!

greg13127 September 18th, 2004 10:39 AM

ugghhh

i did all the stuff it said and now i have a folder in the library named "New Folder" (how original)

but my music still hasn't come back. what do you do now?

i tried uninstalling from control panel and than just starting from scratch but that didn't work either.

thanks!!!

P.S.

LimeWire>>Kazaa!!!

greg13128 September 18th, 2004 10:44 AM

1 more ting

also,

in the incomplete folder there is only 1 song. i deleted the rest.

would that be why nothing came back?

i also (in my computer) searched through the limewire folder and there was no media files just the following folders:

LimeWire 4.0.8
root
New Folder (the one i just made manually...)
magnet10 (in the root folder)

wasn't there another folder beside root? or are my eyes playing tricks on me

thanks again (twice)

stupididiot69er September 18th, 2004 12:00 PM

maybe you'd want to move that song, just incase and when you reinstalled did you delete the LW prefs(c:\documents and settings\ ' shared location' \ .limewire
and the limewire folder usually in program files

greg13129 September 18th, 2004 02:32 PM

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!1

I <3 YOU ALL !!!!

LimeWire 4TeHWin!!

Lord of the Rings September 18th, 2004 03:13 PM

If you wanted to keep your incomplete files to continue dwnlding with them, you definitely should not have deleted them! The idea of setting the dwnld folder is to double-check nothing has changed, such as by accidently pressing the default button without realising it. But all the same, if you want to create a new dwnld folder, Tools-Options & Saving & press Add & Apply. Wherever your dwnld folder is your incomplete folder will probably be nearby. Don't delete your old downloads.dat file. If you have created a new dwnld folder then you'll need to move your old incompletes there. If things have gone wrong (such as created a new dwnld folder in a new location), you can add your incomplete files to your incomplete folder (new if it be) & in the LW Library window click incomplete folder to open it & press resume for those files. They will then be re-added to the dwnld window & will seek sources. Searching for them will help them to connect obviously. To continue sharing, add whichever folders you desire using Tools-Options-Sharing & Add & Apply.

i am so confused

i am so confused, i did all of the steps that you guys said to do in the previous posts, and i still don't have my music back. I have a new folder, and it says Limewire> limewire 4.0.8> root> magnet 10, and none of them have my music in them. Any help would be greatly appriciated!
Thank you

cool men wear kilts September 19th, 2004 10:34 PM

i dont understand what you guys are talking about either...when u go to add under sharing all it has is stupid stuff that has no music in it...all i want is my music back and i dont know why it disappeared just because i clicked stop sharing...this sucks, please help

cool men wear kilts September 19th, 2004 10:36 PM

"add whatever folders you desire...." there are no music folders under this thing and it sucks

Lord of the Rings September 20th, 2004 12:34 AM

I'm a person who likes to know where my files are. Do a search on your computer for .mp3 & you are bound to find where this missing folder(s) is (make a note of its location & directory path.) Once located, then you can add it as a shared folder.

cool me wear kilts September 20th, 2004 10:30 AM

File sharing

Hi,

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I'm a complete newbie. I was wondering, I'm really happy to share any files that I've downloaded from Limewire but I don't want to download any other files from mydocuments etc. Will Limewire only access the file it set up in installation to get files or does it have access to my entire hard drive? I just followed the instructions for installation and it never asked me to approve files for sharing.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Gal x

I don't advocate double posting but just this once you should check out this thread:
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=46075

and if you want to ask this there if it is not answered, that might get a response. Please take care where you post as it is a big group of forums and things get lost!

Yes you have posted in entirely the wrong place!, but do not move this question elsewhere as we will both be lost! This is the right forum, but you should have clicked on "new thread" to ask your question.... so for future subjects, that is what you should do. There are forum rules at the top of each forum which are more like helpful tips, and you should read them... They are quite helpful:)

What you should do is go to Limewire's options or preferences>saving and you will see where your downloads are being saved. Then go to options or preferences >sharing and you will see a list of folders you are sharing. I have a feeling there should be one and it should be the same as your save folder. If it is not you can change it. After changing anything in preferences, make sure you click apply, and OK.

When you are sure what folder or folders, if you chose to add any others, are being shared, nothing apart from them will be available to be seen or uploaded by anyone else.

I hope that helps.

I Presume you are referring to ''MP3'' files, but could be MP4, WAV,
ect.. Go to ''Start'', Search, All Files and Folders, All or Part of a file Name, and type in: *.''ext'' where ext. is the extension of the file your interested in ie *.mp3, *.mpg, *.wav ect.

When the search is done right click on the file of interest and select "open containing file".

This will open the folder where the files are located.

this is good info.... if you go to tools > options > saving (it's the 1st page usually) it shows you what hard drive and the file name where your files are being saved (default is c:\program files\ limewire\shared limewire .... I have moved mine, i believe it was here) this page should show you where to look for any downloads thru limewire since you have to download to the folders listed...

and for those who do not want to share.... if you are really on a 56k modem.... i wouldnt share due to speeds but it would be nice if you moved your files to another folder so they dont show up when qued for... i allow 5 slots and 2 per person since i have good speed.... the law is the law and like glass it was made to be pushed from time to time .....

KrazeeLikeBones June 2nd, 2006 03:18 PM

I've only been having problems with multiple downloads, it crashes once in awhile... but i fixed that using proper internet settings instead of "just good preformance"...

Thanks Birdy for the info on how to move my music to WMP and iTunes! I would have thanked you sooner but as a computer novice(as I told in my quetion) I ruined my DSL box that day and had to replace it!! But I am glad to see that there is some people out there that KNOW how to do these things and are willing to help!! Thanks a bunch!! taintlix

Sorry to disagree but your files are not yours. They are mine and others you've leeched from. As for the lawsuit you think of that before you DL. It's not only the D/L but the U/P that gets sued. So we all are taking our chances.
Sorry, guys did I get off the subject? ...it must be the Puert Rican in me. Grrrrrowl

Lord of the Rings December 3rd, 2008 08:05 PM

Make sure you do NOT save your downloaded files to your LimeWire (LW) Program folder. Unfortunately LW 'sometimes' defaults to that location.

Best location is C:\Documents and Settings\"your account name"\Shared
LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Saving & press Browse button if your shared location is LimeWire (program folder). Else choose another drive to save to. :)

Lgarra360 December 3rd, 2008 08:09 PM

i will from now on^^ thank you:rolleyes_2:

Hi guys! I know where my files are but for some reason not all of them are there - after R (and a few S) the files are gone. They still play when I click on the ones that are there and all upload to my mp3 player but I don't know how to find and edit all my other files!

If you can help, thanks! :o)

Lord of the Rings May 22nd, 2009 04:35 PM

If you updated LimeWire & cannot find your Downloads

Also, check the files in your LW Library. If using LW 4, select the file & press Explore button. That will to the parent folder. If using LW 5, right-click the file & choose Locate file on Disk & that will take you directly to the file.

forevermeg4u May 22nd, 2009 05:20 PM

I found them in C:\Documents and Settings\username\LimeWire Shared so I can't find those options. The library doesn't have anything at all, and C:\Documents & Settings\username\My Documents\LimeWire\Shared doesn't exist (all there is is "store purchased").
