![]() NEED HELP!!! I INSTALLED LIMEWIRE VER. 4.0.5 TODAY AT THE EARLIER VERSION'S PROMPTING. EVERYTHING APPEARED TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL NORMALLY---HOWEVER, NOW I HAVE NO AUDIO OF ANY TYPE ON MY COMPUTER SPEAKERS---RUNNING WINDOWS XP HOME. NO SOUND AT ALL ON SPEAKERS THAT WORKED FINE BEFORE THE UPGRADE---HOWEVER, HEADPHONES CURRENTLY WORK. NO WINDOWS SOUNDS, NO SOFTWARE SOUNDS, AND, OF COURSE, NO MUSIC COME THROUGH PREVIOUSLY GREAT SPEAKERS. I CHECKED ALL SOUND SETTINGS I COULD FIND. DID A WINDOWS UPDATE AND IT PICKED AN AUDIO DRIVER TO DOWNLOAD FROM OVER A YEAR AGO--THE IMPLICATION BEING THAT LIMEWIRE UPGRADE CORRUPTED MY AUDIO DRIVER(S)?? DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED AUDIO DRIVER---STILL NO SOUND FROM SPEAKERS ON ANY FUNCTION OF THE COMPUTER OR ANY INSTALLED SOFTWARE. TRIED TO UNINSTALL LIMEWARE--STILL NO SPEAKER AUDIO. ANY IDEAS????? ![]() Last edited by poorich; May 29th, 2004 at 04:35 PM. |

![]() Thanks for taking the time to make a suggestion---but I had already tried that and still no go......I'm using Windows Media Player as my default. The headphones work normally when plugged into one of the desktop speakers---I even get "hum" when I rachet the volume way up with no audio being played--so a signal is present. But still no audio going out through the desktop speakers or the floor sub-woofer. I tried Control Panel/Sounds/Hardware/Properties and everything indicates working. Trying the various MS WIN XP "sounds" also produces no results. I have a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio sound device. Funny about the CAPS in my first post---I am 57 and not mad--it just makes it easier to see with CAPS selected, especially at 2 in the AM when I was trying to troubleshoot. Who could know that someone out there thinks CAPS are "shouting"?? I guess I'm old and stooopid, but I'm not mad. Patience.......... |

![]() I figured as much (about the shouting I mean). I figured that you were not mad, but in the net, since there is no other way to evoke screaming and/or shouting, it is like a rule of sorts that caps are reserved for that reason. Now, on to the problem at hand. Since I own a Mac, I can't really be of any help, but I would suggest running anti-virus (you never know) and other utility softwares that you may have (defragmentation and stuff, disk repair... you get the idea). It might not make sense but it might point out to something. Also, try disabling LW's mp3 player from LW's options. Since that is most possibly the only thing that uses audio output in LW, I figure that if indeed LW screwed up your speakers somehow it would be because of the player.

![]() Murasame: Thanks for the suggestions.........I have not done a defrag nor a scandisk as of yet. They are on my list of "things to do", however. Like you say, one never knows----it just might discover something. I did de-select the LW mp3 player yesterday to no avail. I deleted and reinstalled my audio drivers but that did not solve the problem, either. I also ran Norton Virus Scan--no results. I really think that the LW v4.0.5 upgrade somehow corrupted my audio files during its installation--most probably something in the registry? At least that is when the audio stopped coming from the speakers--during the installation routine of v4.0.5. I am still awaiting a response from customer service @ LiveWire to an inquiry along those lines. Again, what is most puzzling about this problem is the headphones are working normally when plugged into the speakers, but the same desktop speakers and subwoofer produce no sound on their own. They are seemingly dead as can be---even though they show "power on" lights. Worst case senario: If nothing else, this may provide an excuse to upgrade my speakers or (gasp!) my whole computer---but it would be a shame if that is the only solution. And not a very good advertisement for the LiveWire product, either. Again, thanks for your input--if you come up with anything else--let me know. I think that the basics of this software/hardware problem will be the same, even though you are running a Mac.....Are you truly in Paris? Almost half way around the world from me. Bon Chance..... |

![]() I'd also try borrowing a friends speakers or something. I figure that if the headphones work when plugged into the speakers but the speakers themselves won't output any sound, then it's probably the speakers at fault (it may be coincidental that this happened when you installed LW). |
