Default Unauthorized downlading

I'm sorry if this seems ever so slightly n00bish, but my limewire appears to be downloading a number (200+) of cracks to my shared folder at regular intervals without asking me wheather I want to, and without me even asking to download them. Just wondering if anyone else its experiencing something like that, and how to stop it. Cheers.

First thing is to have a virus app detect everything you dwnld. You might also want to get a spyware checker.

Depending upon the type of files you dwnld, if you add a few keywds in LW's filters this will help to eradicate much of that type of rubbish from your search results. Go to LW's menu Tools-Options & Filters & choose Keyword & enter .exe This principle is shown in detail in this following thread: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27519 I hope this helps.

Getting a virus from limewire is very rare. Ive only even heard of it once but ive never heard of 200+ unauthorized downloads before.

This is what I would do if I were you:
run Windows update then Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer http://www.microsoft.com/technet/se...s/mbsahome.mspx

Next try using:
-ad-ware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
-Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
-Spy Sweeper http://www.webroot.com/wb/downloads/index.php

That only covers hacking and spyware problems im guessing you already have an anti-virus?

I have spybot and ad-aware already, and nothing came up. I may reinstall AVG because it seems to be screwing up recently. I download mp3's, but I tried to download ***, which is when the problem started.

As an afternote, know that dlding applications (and .exe files in particular) puts you and your computer in a vulnerable position because this is how one can get a virus. This isn't because of LW. It is (again) because of the users. Although LW will warn you that dld such files is hazardous, it is still up to you. And the danger is not unique to LW. Any P2P app that allows program dlding puts you i the same danger, so either get an antivirus, or (as Peerless will no doubt say if he sees this thread) go and buy the software and get the antivirus anyway because it's damn useful.

Did you try Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer to? Its good to make sure your security is up to date.

Like I said before getting a virus from limewire is rare but if you were to get it from somewhere it would most likly be from a .exe file or mybe a .zip

Did you do any checks for trojens yet?
