Open a Finder window (hey, that's probably why it's called "the Finder"). If you're using OS X, you should see at the top right of the window a search field. Insert the search words there (don't look for something very common but instead, try to look for a word that seems rare)
Alternatively, with the Finder selected, press Command-F and run yer search from there.
Normally your files should be located at the home directory (the one that should be named after you) in a folder there called Shared.
