how can i send a message to the hosts?

Not exactly sure what you mean, but I don't think you can send a message to the host. If they have chat enabled you should see a yellow smiley under chat. Just click that and it should open a dialogue box to chat. Most hosts usually are not in front of there screens to see the chat requests though. They leave the machine on while they are downloading/sharing files and do other things.
