Whenever I have Limewire turned on there is a constant stream of data passing in both directions accross my connection, even when I am not downloading & no-one is uploading from me. Can anyone advise what is going on please? (data activity stops instantly as soon as Limewire is closed)????

My guess is that you are connected to the nework as an Ultrapeer, Peer, or Leaf. The information you see is from this. Even when you are not d/l or u/p, but as long as you are connected to network data will be passed back and forth. Like other users searching for information. etc.

You are acting as an Ultrapeer. This is good for the network. It is equivalent of being a big offerer of files except you're helping to maintain the network operationabiltity. I only wish I had a good enough bandwidth to also offer as a UP.
If you want to find out more about ultrapeer, do a search of the forum of the word leaf or ultrapeer. If you really don't like being so generous then go to Tools>Options>Speed & tick disable up. |

Thank you LotR for the better description: BTW I leave mine running in the background, while I do other things.
