Those connections show you are connected to the G network, this a good thing, and helps the network out.

If you look at them they are probably 5 ultrapeers.

When you do searches if you are not connected you will not get many results, if any.

I am connected as an Ultrapeer, I normaly have 32 peers and 32 leaves connected.
