Hello out there, I just wanted to know what a wmv file was. There are so many and they are only a few hundred kb each. When I do download them I get an icon of an ipod with an advertisement, but no movie. Please tell me what it is and whether I am missing something on my comp that plays these types of files.
Thanks |

wmv = Windows Media Video file; ie: supposed to be a movie & designed to be played with windows media player.

WMV and WMA files are supposedly more compressed than the MPEGs and MP3 files

Doesn't mean the codec is better. I assure you mpeg4/divx is a much better codec with better algorithms for compressing with less loss of quality & for a smaller size. The larger/later the mpeg version the better the algorithm. I think you'll find the wmv codec loses more in quality in some regards be that motion compression, colour, resolution, lossy side FX, etc. That's why professionals stay a long way away from wmv. lol
And not forgetting m4a is roughly so to speak arguably mpeg4 audio.
