Default connecting stereo to computer

I know I'm late to the party, so to speak, but I'm finally connecting my computer to my stereo and vice-versa. The former, computer to stereo, so I can play mp3's all over the house, seems pretty simple, as there's a jack on the back of the computer that I can connect to Auxillary Input on the stereo. But what about the reverse: connecting the stereo to the computer, so I can make mp3's out of, say, vinyl or tapes? Obviously, I'd come out of Auxillary Output or Tape Out on the stereo, but where do I plug into the computer?

Yeah easy for comp>Stereo. Depending on its inputs. I use 3.5 mm stereo plug > a set of RCA plugs which then connect > Stereo. For line back it's pmg or 6.5 mm stereo plug (headphones in my case) > 3.5 mm stereo plug > comp. But for recording is a different matter b/c you need a preamplifier in-between the stereo & the comp to control line input.

Switchable sets of speakers in different rooms is very handy.
