Please help

I have a couple of questions that need answering. My dad recently bought a sony drx-530ul DVD RW but no software came with it. does any1 know where i can get some free software so i can make it work??
also i have some american dvds that i want to make into region 2 to work on my dvd player. is there any way this can be done?? thanks for any help given.
