Batman Begins/Star Wars

I guess what you need to be aware of is that it is ILLEGAL to download anything that is copyrighted unless you have paid for it at the appropriate location. Newly released movies will not be legally available until after they are released on video, and even then, I don't know where you would be able to purchase one. Unfortunetly, some unreputable people will sell you p2p programs (which is what limeware is) and give you the impression that you will be able to legally download copyrighted material. If you go back and review your reciept or download agreement, you will find that it never once specifies that you may do so. It bites...but there it is.

Dear JenJenSweet

You have summed up the scam business in a nutshell, i.e. it preys on the ignorance of newbies and then slickly parts them from their money.

However, most of them do not sell you a P2P program they just give you a URL link to the proper download site, thus costing them nothing at all.

Flossy, like all the other people who realise they have been scammed, want something done about the scammers. But I would say this to Flossy and the rest, no one forced you to go to the scam sites, no one pushed you to give them your money and certainly no one told you to stop using your common sense. And common sense says, "if something is too good to be true then it probably is"

Simply put, it is time for newbies to take responsibility for their actions and stop looking for other people to blame. If half the newbies took a time out and thought about what they were doing before giving their money away to scammers then scamming wouldn't be the big "money for nothing" business it is today.

Newbies Bein' Scammed

I am a newbie. But I didn't realize how naive I was. I actually Googled the company that scanned me and felt reassured when they didn't pop up except under their own web site. Lesson learned? A good company will have mostly positive but mixed reviews. If nothing pops up? Do more research. Learn more. There isn't one thing out there that escapes criticism, including God and the bible. If there is no negative review....it's probably a shiny new company.

I suppose heid1i's post, stunning in its ignorance (no offence heid1i) just shows how main-stream p2p is spreading. It seems as though many peoples 1st use of a pc is p2p.

Forum purpose??

Interesting how the exclusive "good ol' boys" club has become the exclusive "good ol' geeks club"... Like heid1i, I also am a beginner, and thought this forum was about sharing knowledge and building the strength of the network/community. It seems to me that her intelligence level has little to do with it; only her experience level.

Also seems that nearly all the responses were tantamount to saying "if you aren't one of "us", you don't have any place here, and have no right to be online at all", and "let's deride the outsider".

Come on guys, all that was required was to give a few lines of basic information! Do you want to propagate the network, or just keep it in the club?

My own level of experience and knowledge is somewhat higher than her's, but I still have A LOT to learn. I was wanting to ask some questions myself, but having read this thread (and a few others similar), maybe I should just look elsewhere (and keep my files of collected rare and out of print/copyrite music to myself?)...

I'm an artist by proffession, and if artists had these attitudes, there wouldn't be any arts left (and yeah, that includes music and film). We all have to learn EVERYTHING somewhere, somehow, and if those with knowledge won't share it, they shouldn't blame the still ignorant/naive for propogating scam sites.

Lord of the Rings July 7th, 2005 03:50 PM

Well I saw that video at Crown which I'm sure heid1i would be aware of. Since this video was still at cinemas & is not on dvd. It's likely that such an offer was from either a stolen copy from the processing room of the studios or else, someone walking into the cinema with a video-cam. It's a good idea to Bitzi search to get feedback or at least preview a video as its downlding. That way you definitely know what you're getting! ;)

I wasn't sure why everybody jumped on the bandwagon of 'must be a scam version of LW' offering videos, ... this might not necessarily have been the case. And since heid1i hasn't responded to the later posts it's hard to know. I do feel that despite an easy to make mistake about talking about copyright material ... they have put up with a lot in this thread .. including intimidation from a visitor. Let's await heid1i's response. I'm sure heid1i has learnt about the forum rules & any chance that she got LW from the wrong place.

By the way heid1i if you were interested in the other parts of the series let us know. I have my own commercially 'purchased' copies! And the bombers got no chance to get in the finals this year. lol :D :p

heid1i

Dear LOTR

I have received a personal email from heid1i and, from what she has said, she did get her copy of LW from the wrong place, i.e. she was scammed.

Dear Not Bill

Although this thread looks as if it is taking a "pop" at heid1i that is certainly not the overall case. Although I originally started to poke fun at heid1i, I was unaware that she was also the target of intimidation by a very unpleasant guest of this forum. As soon as LOTR made that clear, and that he deleted the offensive post before most of us could see it, I wrote a personal email of apology and offered advice on what heid1i should do to get her money back.

This forum is definately not a "if you aren't one of us" club it is for everybody that want to share their experiences of using LW.
