I purchased from Allcoolmusic or also known as my-new-music. I read that I was downloading some mp3shark software and there were all the instructions for it and limewire downloaded. I have problems and I am trying to get tech support from limewire and they say I cant get tech support because I did not buy from the directly. I paid 29.95 for unlimited for life and got the 14.00 movie package free. They say they have a 30 day 100% satisfact. guarantee or money back but they will not answer there phones and wont answer my emials although i know they are getting them because I am getting the read receipts! im getting verry PO'd. I am a little upset with lime wire too because they keep telling me that allmusic sent me what they give free but I have downloaded the PRO version! How di dthat happen? im starting to think that Limewire is in on this and benefiting somehow! How would I get the pro version? And why does Limewire not give these other sites a piece of there mind?????????

Peerless November 7th, 2006 02:48 PM

yur upset with LW eh...grow up, sheeshus...let's say somebody stole your car, then the person who bought it called you up about how to pop the hood open (you know, the one you dented and have to use a special technique to get it to come up)...wtf would you say?

capron2006 November 7th, 2006 05:18 PM

No you guys, im not mad at LW. Im po'd that everyone keeps telling me that I dont have the friggin pro version! I DO! I can read. I go under the about tab and right there plain as day, it says LIME WIRE PRO 4.12.6 Im upset because LW can not explain to me how this company can sell THERE pro edition if they are not allowed too! ALLCOOLMUSIC.com can not make up functions inside SOMEONE elses software. If it says PRO right in the about folder than it is. I am going to get it off my puter. Right now. Then I will buy it direct from LW! I just wanted them to tell me if i can still keep all the crap I downloaded or not but no one there will budge. So not mad at LW. I just wish LW would have said they are not allowed to sell our pro version because if they did than more people could have better grounds to go after these F**** for doing what they do. When I download something that says i am downloading mp3shark or whatever it was, that is what should come up. They even said there would be an mp3shark icon on my desktop. I guess i am upset with LW for not going after them. I guess when i see what LW basic has to ofeer than I can better comment because if I do have there pro version, then they are getting ripped off since I didnt buy it from them! Going to unload this now!
Wish me luck! And dont boo hoo me guys, this is the spot to talk about this. thats why I posted! I just wanted others to know that allcoolmusic and my-new-music are NOT trusted sites, I read some where on these boards in a very lengthy post that they were but read in another that on LW is legit for LW software! I am trying to get my money back but these idiots wont respond to me. Thereis no chat feature to chat with them on. just an email no one answers and a phone number that goes to Vmail which i have left 4 messages on so far today! I paid with my debit card so my bank cant do squat till after it posts. So I have to have patience here!

capron2006 November 7th, 2006 05:33 PM

just wanted to say that I did not loose anything by removing the scamware from my computer! PHEW! I did have PRO. I dont have turbo charged speeds or anythibg like i did before. Does not look much diffirent but it is a bit. As soon as I get my refund I can upgrade to pro like I would like.

Dena November 10th, 2006 03:01 PM

New Here

:) Hi Everyone!
Well I have been having nothing but trouble with LW and went scouting around for some help and happened upon this thread.
My problem with LW is that in checking with other folks, they got theirs FREE and I had to pay.

Let me back up. I went to a Morpheus site and was willing to pay to download it. So I downloaded what I though was Morpheus and ended up with LW. Now the price was $24.99 I believe and by the time I got done, it ended up being nearly $40. I did not click anywhere that I wanted any additional software, I just got it! :yikes:

So I figure, ok Dena ya got it see how it works.

I could download music, but no one could get to my shared file, because when I tried to set the options for shared files, the page would not go all the way to the bottom, nor could it be dragged down, for me to click ok!

(I don't mind sharing. I am a sharin' kinda gal!)

So I went to look for some help, as emails went unanswered as did the phone.

I found this forum, and went :bangh:

I have contacted my credit card company, faxed them all the paperwork, emailed yet again to LW (no answer), and the CC company assured me they would get a complete refund for me.

To be honest, I am now afraid to download the FREE version of LW.

How can I import my music library or save it? I only managed to download about 6 songs from LW so my library is mainly from Morpheus.

This seems like a very nice and helpful site.

birdy November 10th, 2006 03:15 PM

LW's email support won't recognise your email address, since you didn't buy Pro from the official site (your email address won't be in the database);)

You're far better off getting rid of the scam version & any other extras that came with it - who knows what kind of version you ended up with!

It's a bit hard for us to help if you're using a scam version, it might be complete junk & never work properly. If you do decide to get the official version, make sure to use the offline installer (not the recommended one).

Ugh, I was scammed just hours ago by MP3MusicHQ. I was at Google searching for Lime Wire to DL, and got a site that I assumed was Lime Wire. It gave me some kind of deal like free music downloads for .99 cents a month and I agreed. I put in my credit card information, downloaded some cheap **** excuse for a music system, and was on my way to being scammed. I tried to download some songs, but it wasn't working. I checked my bank account and they had charged me for like 30 bucks, plus 8.99 for some spam blocker I DID NOT sign up for. I then Googled the site because I got suspicious and found like 5 sites saying it was a scam. Let me just say how stupid I felt at that point. I found a few forums and topics with posts about how to call and deal with it and proceeded to do so.

This was one of the funniest phone calls I have ever had. The guy, first of all, sounded like he was sitting on his couch, munching on Doritos, watching Cat Woman. He had to spell out my email address in army lingo three separate times, and then claimed the system was down. I refused to get off the phone and mentioned the word "scam" and the system magically came back up. He then told me they would refund me money but they had to charge me a 9.95 fee. I had read a post on a different forum where they told a guy this, and he mentioned the FBI and they immediately took it back. That worked like a charm. I refused to pay the fee and he said "they" would refund my money. By "they" I am assuming he meant him and his lame **** buddy who make money off screwing people. Long story short, they said I’m getting a full refund in 8-10 business days. He then said "Anything else you would like to B**** about?" I laughed and said no, and hung up. :)

Lord of the Rings December 29th, 2006 08:33 PM

Well done! That's the way to deal with them. And he probably was watching TV & munching on doritos. lol :D

The official LW download site is http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml Start with LW Basic & see how you go.

carole December 30th, 2006 08:19 AM

S**t another sucker been scammed!

Hi I have just found this forum and so wish I had found it before!

I have been scammed today by emule.org, I was searching for emule as had heard it was OK and I have been having trouble finding stuff with Limewire recently. I signed up only to find it had charged me the extra for spyware or something that I didn't ask for and that doesn't work on a Mac anyway. The only software offered was Limewire which I have, BitTorrent which is free and some other thing that didnt work.

I didn't realise immeditely that I had been scammed just thought I was being stupid or there was a problem cos I use a Mac. Anyhow after I realised I tried to find contact details, absolutely sod all on the sites, I had to log onto the members area where there was supposed to be a web chat but this wasn't on, maybe cos its the weekend and there were no phone numbers or email addresses!

So can anyone help me with some contact details for emule.org which is where I started from but it went to some other site called filesharingcenter.com. I phoned my bank and they said they couldn't stop the payment as I paid with a debit card, but if I sent them details they may be able to do something. I am not sure if this is the same company as some others on this thread under a different name. So if anyone has a number that would be great, I want to try and get my 30 quid back!

Carole

Lord of the Rings December 30th, 2006 08:38 AM

Can you check your browser history to get the exact site address. Is this the site? http://emule.org/ If yes then try the contact details.
BTW did you know LW beta 4.13 now has torrent support. Other than that, Azureus is best for mac. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azureus. If you need tips about the torrents then send me a message by clicking on my username.

I'll probably be offline by the time you reply but hopefully another member will be around. It's that time of year. And I've just done a long shift as an unpaid forum helper.

carole December 30th, 2006 09:20 AM

Yes that was the site, I have just reset my Safari actually as it has gone weird since all this happened earlier today, I can't get onto hotmail now through Safari so maybe something dodgy has downloaded! I did go onto the contact details and all it does is take you back to the sign up page to take out membership!!!

Good work you are doing as unpaid forum helper!! If I had the knowledge I would do it too! I don't really know anything about torrents!!

So still searching for contact details for emule.org also known as filesharingcenter.com. Maybe the live chat thing will work next week when the holidays are over.

Thanks again

Lord of the Rings December 30th, 2006 09:45 AM

filesharingcenter.com I believe is also mentioned on here (p.5 I think) Known Scam Sites (click on link)

That 'sign-in' scenario seems to be the same on all their links on that page. Check the contact one & see if you can actually send a message after entering your member name, etc. (except for any credit card bizo)

Since you know it's filesharingcenter.com then check their other links from this site & look for contact details there (look for them on the link above.) Sorry ... normally I'd research this myself for you.

birdy January 1st, 2007 03:10 PM

Did you get a confirmation email or reciept when you paid? Check for any contact details on those. Also check your browser history for the exact site you went to (that link of yours goes nowhere).

hi birdy got nothing! crashed after giving them card details? guess i'm stuffed?

birdy January 1st, 2007 03:45 PM

Did you pay by credit or debit card? Call your bank/CC company, they'll be able to give you more info. If you paid by CC, it might be possible for the company to cancel the transaction before payment goes through.

carole January 3rd, 2007 07:05 AM

Hi

Well it looks like I may have resolved my scam in one email! I hope so anyway. I finally managed to connect to their mail service thing on the filesharingcenter website and said I was dissatisfied and wanted a full refund and got this reply:

John H 1/3/2007 8:20:42 AM
Dear Customer,

Thank you for the email. We apologize if this membership did not fulfill your expectations. As requested, we have processed the full refund. Please visit www.marketbill.com to check the refund status.

Please allow normal banking delays of 10 to 15 days before the funds appear on your account. You will also receive a confirmation email in the next 24 hours regarding this transaction.

Sincerely,
Your Customer Service Team

So fingers crossed will get the refund! Thanks for the help and advice Lord of The Rings. I will certainly be more careful what I buy in the future!!! I seem to have a few weird things going on with my Mac since this all happened, so it may end up costing me to get it cleaned up!!

Well I finally got a hold of someone at MP3music.com...I went under the Contact tab and called this number - 1-866-730-0934. I had to be firm with the lady and told her that I was not paying for any services by them and I wanted a full refund of $47.26. She told me that I should've called them within 7 days and I told her firmly that I was not paying for this service. I threatened to go to the BBB and she put me on hold for a minute, came back and said she would refund the money within 8-10 days. I hope this information helps.

harleyquin March 23rd, 2007 02:25 PM

I have found this all very interesting as I have just encountered some problems with funds disappearing out of my account to a company called MPMUSICHQ-COM in CA. I have never heard of them. I followed up trying to contact limewire to which they do not accept my username and password. when I try to find a way to contact them by phone I cannot find any such place to contact them. Any ideas out there? I originally signed up and paid for a lifetime membership to limewire. This was 3 months ago. Now when I call this company about the charge they inform me I also signed up for their "technical assistance" as they are the ONLY place you can get technical assistance for limewire. ???? I told them that was incorrect and that I never signed up for nor was I requesting assistance to use limewire. They assured me that I would not be charged the monthly fee again but would still be able to enjoy my lifetime membership with limewire?????? Sounds awfully suspicious to me. I have already been robbed by scams on e-bay. Guess I better go get a new debit card again eh? Anyone else have this problem or able to verify this truth. I got limewire 4 months ago incidentally so why all of a sudden do I start getting amonthly charge for "technical assistance". Can anyone tell me how to contact limewire? The other company certainly had all my information.

birdy March 23rd, 2007 02:54 PM

There's no LW lifetime membership. LW basic is free, Pro costs $18.88 & includes 6 months of free updates & email support. There are no extra charges for tech assistance:).

You were scammed. Contact your bank/CC company & report this, they'll advise you about whether you should cancel your card.

The only official site for download of any LW version is www.limewire.com

You'll find a list of scam sites here, mp3musicHQ is on it.

dell07 April 8th, 2007 01:06 AM

hello edge,

I was wondering if you recieved your full refund yet? I believe that I have just been scammed!! Seriously, about one hour ago.. I was charged Grand total: 39.76 $ USD. I paid for "limewire 2007" and 360 share pro turned up and it doesn't even work. I am going to call their customer service in the morning when they open. I cant believe this happened!!!

lafalot April 9th, 2007 06:13 AM

After reading this forum, I contacted www.mp3musichq.com and requested a refund. I sent an e-mail and called their support line, which was answered suprisingly fast. I just bought the benefit of free downloads (what a joke!) on the 7th, so I figured I was okay to cancel. The woman that I spoke with ignorant. I told her that I wanted to cancel. She asked why. I told her it was because since I signed up, I learned that the service is a scam and I want a full refund. She says, get this, it's funny, 'that if it was a scam, you wouldn't be able to reach support.' LOL I laughed at her and she asked me what I was laughing at. I told her it's a scam operation and I want my money back. She puts me on hold for about 1 minute and comes back and says she authorized my refund and gave me a confirmation number. Then she says that she is not refunding $9.95 for a restocking fee (or some such garbage). I told her, 'yes you are. I will report this to the Internet Crime Commission. She was silent, then told me to hold on again. In about 30 seconds, she comes back and tells me that she has refunded ALL of my money. I asked her if there will be any more charges to my account. She said no. I contacted my bank and told them that this was a fraud and a scam and not to allow any more transactions through. I then filed a complaint with the Federal Government. Let's see what happens! Tricia

Don't feel like the lone Ranger

I can't believe that this musicmembersarea site has been doing this for this long. By the way, don't bother calling customer service if it has been longer than 7 days, they throw that unrevealed policy around quite freely. Besides, now the toll free number is answered by someone claiming to work for a third party call center, yeah right, and my father is the pope. If you do get anywhere with them on the phone, don't expect any action or even email reply unless it involves the "survey" they claim is to give reasons you feel you deserve a refund. Even then you cannot even submit the "survey" when finished. You have to print it out and fax it to them. MAN THESE GUYS ARE GOOD. As far as I can tell there is no way to talk to them in person or even by email that I can tell. But a bright side for all of you people that have been made fools of by this musicmembersarea scam, don't feel too bad. They have gotten me TWICE!!!! Once by musicmembersarea, and again only 3 weeks later by mymp3downs. Is the same company so BEWARE!!! Oh what a fool am I !@#$%^&*(

T4k73 April 23rd, 2007 05:23 PM

What? Thats a text messaging company!?.Not a Music downloading service company?..What are you talking about?

T4k73 April 23rd, 2007 05:31 PM

Damn it>:( then I was scammed to I paid for Limewire Pro $18.88! Stupid companies Scamming people! The future sucks!>:(

lafalot April 23rd, 2007 06:17 PM

They are all a big rip-off. I was glad that I found this forum and I got all of my money back. And since I bank online, I was able to check and within less than 2 days, I had my money back. I still filed a complaint with the Internet Crime Commission and here is the email reply that I received:

Thank you for visiting the FTC's web page and for using our NEW electronic Talk To Us form. Here's what happened to your information after you sent it to us:
One of our consumer counselors reviewed the information you sent us. If it was related to the FTC's law enforcement responsibilities, we entered it into our shared law enforcement data system. We share this data system with law enforcement agencies throughout the United States and Canada. Attached is your electronic response, which includes your reference number. Any enclosures can be found at www.FTC.GOV under the News Releases, Publications, Speeches option.
Information from consumers like you helps Federal, State and Local authorities investigate possible illegal practices and enforce our laws. Someone from the Federal Trade Commission or another law enforcement agency may contact you if they need additional information to help them in an investigation.
Thank you for using our Talk To Us form, and please continue to use the FTC's web page, www.ftc.gov, to get free information to help you avoid costly consumer problems.

The government, even with its flaws, is trying its best to help in this area. You have to file a report anytime you get hosed. I even turned in people on eBay. There were 3 of them. The highest was 78.00, the lowest was 10.00. Two of the people paid once they were notified of the complaint! lol And hey, it's free to file, so you don't have anything to lose. We all have to be more careful out there. These cons get slicker and slicker as the years go by.

Even if you are over their 'trial' period, I would still call their customer service dept. and demand a refund. Tell them that you are going to file a complaint with the Federal Government if you do not receive your money in full!

Good luck

T4k73 April 23rd, 2007 06:27 PM

 I don't have there telephone number!..Duh if I had there number I would file a complaint yes.But I don't have it. Thanx for the info on FCC?..

If you paid $18.88 and downloaded it from www.limewire.com it's not a scam site...I have read your other posts about not being able to get limewire to work properly for you and it has nothing to do with being scammed...If you cannot ask for some simple help without ranting and raving and you used some manners, you would get some help...

Fairly simple plan if you ask me. If you scroll down on the main web page, even the one you mentioned in your post, there is a Customer Service address there. Pump that addy into your email and plug away. Make sure you give them your order ID, total charges, etc. I just copy/pasted from the receipt I received in my welcome email.

I would do it, I went after them after 3 months simply because of pride. Ask them how to unsubscribe and get a refund. Also, play as dumb as you can regarding the "handling charge". Contact the phone company and check to see the charges for making the call. I noticed they have an international number on there (1-408-512-1933), maybe give the phone company the number and see if they can tell you the charges...... I just stuck with the free. I think "PRO" was just 18.00 us or about. I have never seen it posted for more. Guess I just don't look. It takes and tries a lot of pantience. but the end results are not that bad. if you at the end of the day get what you wanted.

How do you go about getting your money back?? I think we have had enough of this deal.

birdy June 6th, 2007 05:55 PM

Read through this whole thread, you'll see how other people have been able to get a refund from scammers. You never said who you bought from, or how much you paid...
Please Help (LW 'lifetime membership')

It's probably going to depend on how long ago you bought LW as well, most of the people in this thread contacted the scammers soon after buying LW. If you bought ages ago, I don't think you'll have much luck getting a refund. But you can always try anyway.

Money Back

We bought our lifetime membership from Limewire, we have an order number. When we tired to send them an email stating that we got a virus and when fixing it Limewire was taken out, we asked how to get back on without paying. We have never gotten an answer. We paid by credit card. We bought it on May 12, 2007.
Thanks for the help,
John43

Have a look at your statement...exactly who is the vendor, listed next to the transaction?
How much did you pay for LW? Did you pay for LW Pro or basic LW?

Did you recieve an email after buying LW? If so, who was it from & what did it say?

yodave July 31st, 2007 12:38 PM

I want to get my money back for buying Limewire Pro-I unfortunately succumbed to their constant come-ons everytime I signed on. My downloading has been nearly nil since I got the Pro and was working beautifully for years before I got the "Pro"-I have all the same software, computer, dsl, space, speed, etc as I did when I didn't buy the "Pro"-talk about getting scammed. Just what the %$&*& does the so-called "Pro" have that's do %##%&*ng special?!!! How do I get my money back Mr/Ms Moderator?

I Can't Play MOV files why not?

6_pac August 1st, 2007 12:03 AM

I filter mov files out of my search results as they tend to be spam and mislabeled porn.

Try using a different media player. VLC media player is a good one that has the codecs built in and will play most file types.

More info on codecs and players here: CODECs list for Movies /Alternate players / Video help forums
