Sometimes a codec is needed to play .avi files. Try downloading this free program then play your file again. www.divx.org
Just don't download the program with the converter. You don't need that one.

Let us know if this works.

CyberStalker is correct

.......unless you have just downloaded the avi "video" file I just have, which is in fact an audio file(with which I am familiar) all along, but is somehow being shared with the wrong title by many hosts. .... I do wish people would check stuff before sharing it!

Sorry libby748! I gave you the wrong site. Try this one. www.divx.com
You'll want the bundle not the converter. The bundle is the one with the blue background.

I've also experienced this upon a few files. They downlded as video type file concerts but it turns out they were audio concerts. Not too hard to change over using mac army knife/renaming extension.
