Default 851.7 virus

I am new to limewire and the first file I downloaded was a 851.7 kb. Lucky me... later I found out this was a virus. Anywho, the file was a .zip and when I tried to open the Setup.exe, a windows notification popped up and I didnt remember what it said, but I clicked the button and the file dissapeared. I did it twice and it did the same thing

so did I still get the virus? is that concidered opening it?

btw, I don't have Norton Antivirus... but if I got the virus, and then use Norton later (when I get it) it wouldn't be too late to get rid of it, right?

*edit: the windows notification was odd... it didn't look like that of a virus warning. It said something like the file cannot be opened

First thing, DON'T TRY TO OPEN IT! Next, get AVG anti-virus from Grisoft. It's free, and you don't have to wait to remove the virus if you do have it. Those small files are usually trojans, and are a pain in the @$$. Always look at the file size when downloading. Also, read other postings in the forum. Most of the problems w/ viruses and spammers are explained in them.

Thanks : ), but I didn't know that was a virus and tried to open it twice... is there any way I can scan for the virus to see if I got it or not?

Use AVG as suggested. Also see the Sticky thread at the top of this section about this topic.
