Not sure I'd be able to trust logging into a P2P client that was shutdown by the RIAA, even if they changed servers, they could still monitor you.

Grandpa November 25th, 2005 09:13 PM

If they want to they can monitor you on any P2P net.

just keeping you informed

Thanks hobo, spinx and granpa for taking the trouble to advise a newbie I seem to have sparked of a strong debate on Limewire pro. On your advice I have contacted my cc company and they have advised me to keep checking for unauthorised withdrawls it seems I am insured for such events which is a relief I have conflicting information on that particular subject. When I signed into Limwire I kept getting a new start up screen asking me what language I what to use, then asking for a scan of my system I declined. Again on your advice I have uninstalled the version I had and did a scan for adware/spyware and reinstalled the latest version from the official site. Maybe I might be on the right track now.

It is normal for the installer to ask which language you want the installation language to be in. I mean would you prefer to read the installation instructions in chinese or other, lol :D As for scanning your HDD for shared files, that's normal but I don't allow it. I have a set selection of folders I share so I don't need LW to make suggestions to me.

Your bank/CC co. should be able to refund you for your initial purchase if you emphasise it was a scam. Do you remember the scam site? See Known Scam Sites

(As for pro, Sphinx has obviously never tried pro. No it won't improve the overall downld speeds, but by connecting to 5 peers instead of 3, it helps to find those harder to find files (OOB searching for example) as Grandpa suggested. It also helps to find more sources for such files so you can be downlding more consistently & faster due to the extra sources for these less common files. For very common files, you won't notice any difference between pro & basic. And yes, purchasing of Pro is seen as more of a donation by users. After all, it's not that much. Oh & consistent turbo connection also helps with searching which Basic doesn't always do. Depends on user's set up I guess. And finding sources is the name of the game for downlding. But a person should always start with LW Basic to learn the tools & tricks 1st before even considering pro. IMHO)
