I bought Nero 6 this year & it works great for data burns. I can backup all my software on cd with it and music. Does itues allow for data burning or just mp3? I just spent the weekend burning and backing up my downloads from Gnutella. ;)

I have no clue, it just has a burn button lol (mate you should know by now that I just play around with programs 'till I make them work lol) :D

Maybe it was a data cd I burnt I can't remember. But in your Advanced options for iTunes you have your type of disk to burn options. This is in version 6. In previous versions it was under its own tab at the top called burning. They've now move these options to the advanced section. The sample below is the mac version. Windows is basically the same. I just couldn't be bothered starting up windows to get the snaps. :D Give us a few hrs & I'll try it out on both mp3 & data formats. (This'll be interesting because my entire library is now on an external drive. It's not a reliable drive! )

I answered the question to myself in just a few mins. iTunes can't burn mp3 dvd's. It burns them as data disks. Now that's solved. Roxio Toast can burn an audio dvd but I haven't attempted it yet.

O.k., LOTR I dont get a similar image as you in the advance, what do I click on to get that....?;) Oh and I have itunes 6....

Sphinx does burning this way have to have a certain player or will any stereo do......?;)

I think it's time to update my iTunes 4 in windows lol :D
I had selected mp3 CD, that's why I received that message after I pressed the burn disk button because I had a dvd-rw inserted. However if you select data disk in the preferences then you won't receive that message. Edit menu, Preferences>Advanced>Burning

(I'll need to install iTunes 6 to double-check everything is still in the same place as the mac version.)

But keep in mind you'll probably only be able to play the disk on your dvd player & your computer if you burn to dvd. However, I believe there's car players out now that can play mp3 cd's & I think Pioneer has a car player that can play dvd mp3 disks. Available in USA, I'm not sure about here.

As for your earlier question about a portable player. What did you have in mind. My brother bought himself an iRiver player which is roughly similar to iPod in its abilities. I think its cheaper than iPod. AFAIK Normally, many portable players will come with software that you install to your computer. This software acts as a go between your computer & portable player (sometimes called a Media Manager.) Or you may need to get the softw from a 3rd party I'm not sure. Some players may have the ability to drag & drop directly to their icon. Perhaps someone else can expand on what options different portables offer.

Of course there's also other types of portables that store their music on removable media such as CD's or mini CD's. I suspect they're on the way out of the market. But I don't know, it's not something I normally research.

It took a while but I updated to iTunes 6. I can confirm the options in preferences are identical. Just slightly different appearance to the mac.

Copy & paste to a document any url's you feel might be helpful. eg: this thread, just copy the url from the url address above. You can specify specific posts in a url but pm me if you really want to know how to do that. The 2nd link I gave above is such an example. It takes you directly to the last post in the thread.
