Default Auto generated spam files?

I was looking for a couple of obscure artists, and when I input their names, I get a file with the exact name as my search,134.4 kb, and is an audio ad for some web page. Is some idiot auto generating these by watching what comes in as a search on the Monitor tab? Anybody else seen (or noticed) this?

See these links: 1. autogenerated spam results, & also on same thread is 2. autogenerated mp3 spam results
You can filter these out very easily & quickly using the spam filter (if you have LW 4.10)

Virii are the more difficult to filter out & take a lot more time. WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of! (click on link)

Unhappy Thanks

I ran through the threads you suggested, and got quite an education. I do have v4.10 Pro, and went to the filter option, and jacked junk sensitivity way up, but other than that is there a way to filter these things? I am mostly looking at mp3 files, and the bogus files are easy to recognize by size, but each one has a different host, so I could spend a ton of time blocking individual hosts; and if they are unwitting, I may be blocking future viable search results. Guess I'll just sort by fil4e size in the future.

Thanks again,

donno

When you see a file in the search results that's obviously junk, then select it & press the Junk button below the search results. Keep doing that & the filter will learn to recognise them. The 134 KB mp3 spam is the easiest to filter out. You might not want to push the sensitivity up too much initially so you can be sure you're not getting genuine files in the spam filter. It took me only 2 searches to filter out audio spam. That's because I deliberately did silly searches to attract them. Such as jkdjklfe for example. Virii are definitely the hardest to filter out. It will take a long time for the filter to learn filter out virii efficiently. It's the files' characteristics you're filtering out, not the host. I don't believe in blocking hosts personally. Particularly since most will have dynamic ip's which mean their ip's can change from one day to the next or so.
