I am new to computers and therefore Limewire. Everything was working fine but now I find that I can't preview or launch a download.
I would appreciate any help given. |

You can only preview or launch multimedia files like video & music. Which version of LW do you have? Which operating system? What's your default video or/& audio player? What happens when you click these buttons? You can only preview as much as you've downlded.

It worked fine before but when I try to preview a video it doesn't work. I have to go into Explore to play a download. |

I've heard of this happening before. Check the defaults to your files. Make sure WMP "is" the default to play those video files. If I remember correctly, for someone else their defaults had disappeared ... which seemed to be a system problem.

I can think of 2 other options other than a system check with utilities. That is 1. You try another video player & trial it out as your default video player (it can also play many audio formats): VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) as it has in-built codecs & is generally reliable. To see what formats it can play see http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html & to make it your default see the suggestions here Setting Default video app
2. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & #3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included.) But make a note of your settings b/c once you delete your LW prefs folder, the next time you open LW you'll need to reset your options. |

I beg to differ, it most certainly does preview. I use WMP all the time, if you download and install the XP codecs, you wouldn't have had to get a third party player. Ive never had any problems playing music or videos from WMP. Then again, I only use version WMP 9 with the codecs.

I have the XP codecs and WMP 10 and it worked fine at the start then recently it stopped allowing me to preview. I t now works with VLC, if I go through Incomplete Files, but not WMP.

ok ok! I did the hard bit of hunting through thev previous postings and here i am and im still none the wiser!
I am downloading a film, I want to preview so i select preview. But (after about an hour of pc noises and whizzings!) when WMP10 opens it says that other programs are using this file and i must close all other programs. Whats all that about then?
