I signed up to limewire a while back and forgot my user name...how do I find out what it is?

There aren't any user names for LW, except here on the forum

ok...so if I want to share with someone specific...what info do I give them....an IP allows them to access other stuff from your pc doesnt it?

You can direct connect with people (doesn't always work, but it's worth a shot). To do this, you & they should have chat enabled (tools > options > chat. Tick enable chat & apply).

Go to the LW search page & click on direct connect (below keyword). You should see an IP address there. That's what your friends have to enter into their comp. If you can't see an IP there, you can go to
http://whatismyip.com/
& you can find your IP there.
