suddenly none of my searches are coming up??? I downloaded Pro about a month ago and things have been fine until last week. I use an airport card and connect to wireless network which was down for a week. When it came back up none of my searches would come up. I am not sure if it is a problem with my port number and how can I get around that? I also am having problems getting support from the website, I get a loop-like system that never goes anywhere. I read someone's same complaint and they said you should get two emails from limewire, the second with a help link. I have only received one. I think my port is blocked, what can I do??? Thanks! |
1 Attachment(s) Do you see the brick wall in front of the globe as the icon image sample below shows? Have you checked this for checking your firewall & making sure UPnP is enabled for your wireless system & airport? Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) |
Thanks for the reply! yes, there is a brick wall. i have tried changing different settings but nothing changes. |
1. What brand & model number of devices are you using? 2. Did you enable UPnP on your Airport? (it's actually a little different to UPnP.) 3. Which operating system are you using? I'm guessing you're using mac OSX right? Which version? 4. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? |
yes, i have mac 0sx 10.3 9 the test worked. i have my firewall on Gnutella/limewire 6346 and if i try to go to new and choose it from the list it is not there. I am not sure if i enabled UPnP. how do i? where is it? I have limewire 4.0. does this help? |
also, i have the up manually put. hould the listening port be the same? |
What do you mean up manually put? Listening port is generally the same, however, if you're using UPnP then it doesn't matter. Are you attempting to use UPnP or manual port forwarding? Are your devices manually port forwarded? Did you see the link I gave which has a special section dealing with setting up UPnP on devices? There's one also for Airport except it's called (NAT-PMP). If you already have a setting for gnutella/LW then you don't need to create a new one. See OSX Firewall settings which is for Tiger but there's not much difference. |
I am using manual port forwarding. I did go to the website. when i try to port forward, i go to utilities, then airport admin., there is no base station to select. this is on the port forwarding website for airport extreme. |
You do have this option NAT-PMP setting instructions for Airport Else manual port forwarding might be safer. Airport port forward instructions but if you don't have the base station option then see alternative instructions; 1. Set up Port Forwarding on your Airport (don't choose dmz! Choose port 6346), or this link 2. And choose one such as one of the bittorrent set of instructions but use port 6346, or this one Another instruction option without base station Is the Airport the only connection device you have? |
yes it is. it was workong fine until about two weeks ago. we lost our connection for about a week and when it came back on, limewire wasnt working. thats why i thought maybe they blocked their port...?? |
also, when i go to airport utilities, admin. they only give me two options, scan or other. for other i need a password. i don't know how to get to port mapping. |
Do you have Airport 4.2? According to the link I gave, this version is required in order to enable NAT-PM. Check software update to ensure you have already installed the aireport update. If you can't get anywhere with this, then manual port forwarding it the way to go. If you're concerned that port 6346 might be blocked or shaped by your ISP (internet service provider), then try a port between 49152 - 65535. Likewire you'd need to put this number into LW's manual port forward & also the Listening port. In fact, before you do manual port forwarding, try changing the listening port to one in the range suggested; eg: 64049. And see if that makes a difference. BTW who is your ISP? Your version of LimeWire, did you mean version 4.0 or 4.10 or another. Please let us know. BTW I'm guessing your admin password for the airport will be the same as your Mac. If not, ask whoever else has admin abilities for the computer. Perhaps you haven't set one up for the airport yet. Did you check the manual? |
okay. i have airport 4.2 i dont think i can enable NAT-PM so i will try different port numbers but does that mean i keep going through all numbers until i see th brick wall down? i think my ISP is blocking it, i use a network from the city i live in. everytime i want to get online i have to enter numbers to and letters shown above login. i also tried using my password for the computer and it didnt work for "other" in airport admin. also, i have limewire 4.10 perhaps i havent set up something for the airport... i will try the port number, but when i try 64049 in listening should i keep the manual 6346? will i know instantly when i have access by the brick wall? thanks again for all your help!!!!! |
another question..why dont i have a base station? how can i set one up? it seems like everything i need to do is from utilities/airport admin and when i am there i have no options...i rescan and there is nothing. i try other and it doesnt work??? i can try different port numbers but should i restart limewire everytime i do this? |
one more thing, i tested 6346 and it said my test worked. does that mean its not blocked by my isp? |
Port 6346 test will show that your router & ISP is not blocking that port for outgoing requests. But for incoming, the airport still might be at fault. Who is your ISP (internet service provider)? Yes there is a chance they're using a special anti-p2p program to detect & filter out p2p programs to either affect their bandwidth or stop them connecting. BTW I've never used an Airport myself & don't know the differences between models, etc. But did you check your airport manual for how to access/create/change your admin password for the device? |
i use a wi-fi connection, thats all i know! i live in poland and i cant speak the language! i dont have my airport manual that i know of. can you tell me about the wall coming down..for example if i keep trying different ports do i have to restart limewire to see if it works, or do i need to wait 15 minutes? i really appreciate your help! it seems like it is being blocked as it worked fine a few weeks ago...i dont think i changed any settings to cause this change. what about upgrading limewire or something? |
You didn't say which LW 4.10.x version you have. The present official version is 4.10.9, but the beta 4.11.0 has been released. The official version get it here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml The beta get from here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml Edit: I just realised you said in the beginning you're a pro user. If that's the case, you can downld the newer version from your personal downld page. Also you'll find a link to the pro beta at the bottom of that page. http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...pro_lookup.jsp You can also send a message to LW Pro support giving them the same details we've discussed here to see if they have any ideas. You could also try another OSX gnutella program to see if you have the same problems. Either FrostWire which is almost the same as LW, get it here http://www.frostwire.com/static/downloads.html Or else try Phex from here http://phex.kouk.de/mambo/content/view/17/29/ |
okay. i guess i will try that stuff. when i open limewire it only says 4.10 can you answer my question about how restarting limewire if i change preferences? do i have to restart it or will the brick wall just come down? or should i wait 15 minutes or something like that. i still havent tried changing ports because i want to know if i have to restart limewire everytime i change the number. i saw in previous threads that people who have pro should have recieved two emails, the second being a help link, i have only received one and i purchased it over a month ago from the official site... i tried bittorrent yesterday and was having the same problems. one more question, you should only have one firewall open right? so if i try to use bittorrent i should turn gnutella firewall off? thanks! |
okay, get this...i just downloaded beta and now when i open limewire it asks me if i want PRO!!!!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! whats going on!!!!!!!! |
Go to the original page you downlded pro from. You did bookmark your personal pro downld page right? You can get to it here http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...pro_lookup.jsp You did pay $18.88 US right for Pro? If you paid more then you didn't originally get pro & didn't get it from the official site. Pro allows you 6 months of updates & customer support. |
i paid 18.88 for it from the official site, but like i said, i never received a second email. i had pro for about 2 weeks before this started happening. i just tried downloading beta, and 4.11 and now it looks like i dont have pro anymore! |
You'll need to see Payment & Account Activation issues to sort out these issues. There's links to where you can get advice or what to do. |
i sent them an email, but what about the rest of the stuff...firewalls. can you tell me more about changing port numbers, when will i see a change regarding the brick wall. do i have to wait 15 minutes or re open limewire before it changes? |
Does the brick wall disappear at all? Even after waiting 15+ mins? Have you tried connecting directly & not using wifi? Turn off your OSX firewall during this time. It will only complicate things. Possible other ports to try 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 10000, 15189, 80, 20282, 22817, 443, 427, 34599, 40475, 64049. (49152 - 65535) |
i will try those ports but i am wondering if i have limewire up and i am changing the port numbers in advanced, will the brick wall automatically come down, or do i have to restart limewire or wait 15 minutes.... |
AFAIK the brick wall should come down immediately or within minutes. I had an issue with this days ago whilst using LW in a different account. I had closed LW from the 1st account, but when I opened LW in the 2nd account, it said the port was not available. I had to wait some time for it to become available. I'm guessing there was some type of lag between LW closing down & ... ? If in doubt, disconnect LW & reconnect or as you suggested, re-open LW. |
okay, i am trying those port numbers, hopefully one will work. i also have to change it on my system preferences right? i say new and put in the new number, turn off the old firewall 6346 yes? and for exazmple if the number is 10000 i change it on both ports, listening and manual? also, before, next to the brick wall it said 'starting connection' but that would stay there the whole time it was on, it is not doing that now. |
That's probably what I'd do also. In fact, that is what i've done before. |
i am having a similar problem. i use a mac os x. i don't have the pro version, but whenever i attempt to search for anything, the page only shows up blank in the spots where the results would normally show. I can only see the search, monitor, and library tabs on the top and the strip on the bottom. i have redownloaded it various times, but each time it is the same thing. another thing is that this only started occuring when i updated to the newest version. any tips? -thanks |
Which OSX version are you running? Try changing skins to see if that fixes it. Go to View menu -> Change Skins. |
I have version 10.2.8. The skin change did the trick. Thank you so much for your help. |
