why is my new computer howling?

I have a new vaio pentium 3. I love playing scrabble..
hasbro's game.
When I put the scrabble disk in the cd drive..about five minutes after I start playing my computer begins to
ROAR and the cpu useage goes up as high as 70%
I copied the game to C:
and it does the same thing.
why is it sounding like a jet thats about to take
off?
My hard drive is 94% free...
I sure love that scrabble game..but can't stand the roar.

Is the noise coming from the CD drive?
I've heard some of those wind up pretty loudly.

If you copied it to C: and the disk is not in the CD drive I would say it is the case fan. Pentium 3 is pretty old technology and I believe the fastest on was 1.26 Ghz with 512k L2 cache which is pretty light for gaming. That would explain the 70% cpu usage. Are you sure it is not a Pentium 4 or Pentium M because you said it is a new laptop I did not think they were using Pentium 3 any more.
