Question "Subscription" to alleviate adware?

Hi. :)

Sorry if this has been posted before, I went through the last few pages and didn't see anything on it.

Firstly, I'd been a bit negligent about keeping my Limewire updated, and was using 1.6 earlier tonight. I thought I'd get me the new version. I was, of course, very disappointed... I know I should have checked here first, but I've been using Limewire for quite a while, and have heard them again and again SWEAR they'd never pack Limewire with adware. I never dreamed that I'd be stuck with such an enormous ad.

Now, to the subject. ;) I'm wondering if the Limewire developers could consider allowing limewire users to pay a bit of money for, say, 6 months of ad-free software. I bring this up because there was recently a similar deal with EZBoard (a nice, used-to-be-free forum tool for those who've never run across it) ... They eventually couldn't support their operating costs and started pummeling their users with ads. But a user can donate something like 7 dollars for 6 months and they don't have to look at the ads for that time. I'm a tightwad but I eventually got SO annoyed by the ads that even I coughed up the money. :)

I understand there'd be difficulties because we're talking about a piece of software... and I'm not knowledgeable enough to suggest how it could be done. But I have enjoyed Limewire thoroughly for quite a while now, and am considering moving on to something else. The ads won't pay for the program if users won't tolerate them, unless you give them an option to get rid of them. You'll only lose users, and ad revenues.

I had thought of starting a poll on this subject but never got around to it - do you think it worthwhile ??
