messages are the number of messages sent/received.

gnutella "Messages" are all about asking for files, making and negotiatiing connections, letting others know what files and other connections are available, and all that stuff ordinary users never see or need to know about.

The Monitor tab has two parts. One of them shows the search terms that pass through or arrive at your machine. The other part records the uploads requested and their progress.
