CyberStalker is a great assister to others; your light through the dark tunnel
Lightbulb VHS to DVD

I know there's a player that can copy VHS over onto DVD but unfortunatly, it's too expensive so I was wondering if there is some other way to put a VHS onto the harddrive so we can then burn it onto disc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you will have to buy some capturing hardware, whether it be a 'standalone' unit, or as part of a graphics card...one thing to make sure of is the resolution of the capture and whether or not there is stereo capability...

now, you could take the VHS to a commercial shop and have the transfer done, but most likely the cost of that will be more than buying the hardware (which of course can be used to also capture cable broadcasts, and can be used again, and again, and again..the cost of the transfer of one VHS is a one time thing..hence it is more economical to buy the hardware)

I am just guessing here, since I have never tried this myself, but the first thing that you should do is check what kind of video in you have on your PC. My PC is a medialaptop so I am sure that I can do it somehow.

All you really have to figure out is how to connect video out from your VCR (either regular antenna, Scart or even S-Video if your VCR isn't too cheap) to a video/audio in on your PC. Your options will be on the outside of your graphics/video card and your sound card. Then use google to find software that will allow you to record it on your PC. Don't know if any free ones are available (probably some are)

(note S-Video while far superior in video does not support Audio)
