Hi Dianne,
This is because they are put there, either by the software companies or by idiots who have nothing better to do. Personally I don't download programmes of Gnutella. It is not possible, the way the network opperates, to screen files on the network, and all I can say is, use a good and up to date anti-virus programme, and a lot of patience
