Limewire Pro vs Basic

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between Limewire Pro and Limewire Basic. I have read the blurp on the website, though doesn't really give me much.

In particular, I was wondering what the "turbo-charged download speeds" actually are. Currently I am downloading a 400mb file and only getting speeds between 5KB/S and 20KB/S. I have been to the FAQ only to find...

"Q: What's the difference between LimeWire BASIC and LimeWire PRO?
A: Lime Wire offers two versions of its software: LimeWire BASIC, a free version, and LimeWire PRO, which is available for a one-time charge of $18.88. The purchase of LimeWire PRO gives users better search results, turbo-charged download speeds, connections to more sources, a guarantee of no ads or nagware, a special PRO only skin, personalized support via email and free updates for up to 6 months. The purchase of LimeWire PRO also helps to support an open-source movement that doesn't support itself by sneaking unwanted software onto users' computers. "

Hopefully it is a simple answer or someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks
S

If you download from multi host sources you get more with pro hense increased download speed depending on your sourses . I belive 10 instead of 8 for a DSL connection ..It depends on your speed, but if you have a slow connection speed you will not see much or any improvement with pro. Turbo charged connection is improved but ..well not HUGELY :)

If you connect as a leaf you connect to 5 Ultapeers instead of 3peed. This will help you get better results for rare files

Lastly $18.88 is a small amount to pay for a brilliant application and even if you do not get great improvements ..you will be happy to know you are contributing to development costs :)

To be clear the 18.88 does not entitle you to support for life .... just 6 months but a pro application will remain working indefinitely.

Lastly if you have problems running basic, upgrading t pro is not going to solve them

I hope

Hi does anyone know why the extension on the file changes to m3u when I save a file?

Lord of the Rings January 31st, 2009 11:13 AM

How are you saving it? m3u is a playlist file, not an actual audio file. Just a simple document. :) Can you explain the process you are using & at what point you are doing this, which LW window you are using, etc.

Mp3 File

Hi good morning, thank you for your response. I will just search the song and when I find what I want I just go to the bottom and click the save button and tell it where to downlaod it. I tried to find a place where it can easily be downloaded to other web pages. I just don' thave hte hang of it yet. I really appreciate your help I will write it down because I think this happened to me before and I don't know what I did,:o thanks so much

You are doing it from the Library window, with song files you have already downloaded. Yes those options on bottom of the Library window are for the LW audio player. Save As ... is for creating playlists. That is its only purpose.

So I guess it depends on what you are trying to do. Your Library files are files that have already been downloaded to your computer, else files you have put up for sharing from your computer. I am a little confused what you are trying to do. To directly access your audio files on your computer that you downloaded, select Saved Files folder & press the Explore button. Sample image here: Using Library Explore button to access downld folder (click on link) & the folder will open up for you. :) You could then move them to wherever you desire if you wish to move them at all (such as My Music folder.)

Hey thank you for your quick reply what I am trying to do is...I have a memorial page set up for my husband and it will allow you to put your own music on there. So I find the music I want on Limewire and save it to my home computer and then I go to the memorial page and the window there gives you the option to browse and get the music but it is limited to what it lets you access so I was just trying to save it to my desk top so I could get to it easily. But the player on the memorial page will only take mp3 files and mine keeps getting changed to that m3u file. I get very frustrated because I can't do it right. Thank you so much for your help.

Ah ... need to make specific directory mapping for each song. Well I have not set up a web page for quite some time & also depends on which software you are using such as raw html or a higher up web design software which cuts out a lot of the harder html needed knowledge. I'm sure nowadays there are tools around that would make it easier. (My personal web page did have music files linked. But it has not been online for years lol :p)

You might be able to ask on a forum that deals with web design about how to do it. Google around. :)

pro stability vs basic

Have had consistent problems with limewire shutting down every few minutes despite turning off firewalls, uninstalling and reinstalling, and making adjustments in the lime wire settings. Will pro version improve this?

no. I'd suggest http://www.gnutellaforums.com/333278-post2.html & deleting your LW preferences folder. :)

Did Not Help

This is actually the second time I attempted this process. The problem persists

Lord of the Rings March 10th, 2009 10:02 PM

You could try an earlier version of Java; http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...tml#post339821. Other than that, perhaps downgrading to LW 4.18 :)

57hcarpenter March 14th, 2009 08:44 PM

???????

Bought lime wire pro and uninstalled old version, and then reinstalled. Redid JAVA. Also disabled fire wall. The program worked, though anemically, for 3 days. Now it cuts off more than it did before I upgraded. I thought tech support was part of the benefit of upgrading to PRO. The website just directs me to generic pre printed answers. Have I paid for software I can not even use?

Lord of the Rings March 16th, 2009 06:35 PM

Did you delete your LW preferences folder? :)
Tech support is email support only for pro users. ;)
