Default Hint to hyperlink to single post.

This is a discussion board tip I find useful: Making a hyperlink to a specific post.
For example, in another post, a poster asks “im trying to find out how to download albums music i get the searches ok but its all singles and i am doing one at a time”.
The reply was “There's a Sticky which discusses just this. I think it's in the Open Discussion Topics section. It is, just checked. Bottom sticky on the list.”

More helpful would be “See if this helps.”

Here is the tip:
1) Go to the post you want to reference.
2) Right click on the post number (upper right hand corner)
3) From the drop down menu, choose “properties”.
4) Copy the address [URL]. This is your link to this post. You can put it in your reply straight out, or embedded.

nice touch, and one known by many people here..

but we tend to look at it this way....we help a lot of people, and the amount of time necessary for the above is rather extensive....we have to remember the post, ferret it out, then link to it...PITA...not even necessary has the person posting the query taken the time to use the search function of this forum board...and teaches them a lesson, simple lesson, that if they spent half the effort they do searching for a file on Gnutella here, they would need no help for most any question...this board has a rather large repository of advice, many stored in the form of stickys

np...and you are more than welcome to follow your advice and help out...I for one am a tad weary of repeating myself over and over again, and would rather type out the same response than ferret out a post to link to

Unfortunately my experience is with forums, but not Limewire.

I try to give help where I can.
My comment was taken as criticism of the posting technique of a respected member, and certainly this is understandable, and I apologize.
I find such hints are usually of benefits to others, who do not know them.

I have learned that most newbies will find the answer to their first few questions in recent posts, if they only explore a little. Many, like myself, will search, find the answer to querries, and leave, without ever posting.
These brave souls who do their own homework, are often invisible to the steadfast contributors.
On the other hand, if only 10% of the visitors are the lazy ones who are not willing to expend any effort, but expect others to do their homework, these will be a great burden to the experienced contributors.

Let me give thanks for those that this board has helped, but who remain invisible.

If I had broadband, I would spend a few hours exploring this board, cover many threads, get to know the personality of at least a few contributors, find the answer to at least five of my questions, then possibly register my ID. I’m not looking for sympathy, as it is my choice to use dialup. I do have one choice for broadband (direcwa*), and it is my choice to refuse to put up with overpriced, inferior service and rely on dialup.
I am no longer a regular contributing member of any forum, but find they are indispensable for knowledge sharing.
Please excuse my ignorance, which I will blame on the woes of dialup, or a lack of time, or both. Certainly it is not my on inadequacies, for I too have a brain the size of a planet (well, the size of Pluto, at least).

So, I come to class without proper preparation, but will present some ideas regardless.

Have you considered a FAQ list?
I don’t mean forum usage FAQs (as that is present). I mean newbie Limewire FAQs.
I’m so new, I can’t even suggest a list of all the (seemingly stupid) questions that are asked on a regular basis, but I’m sure others could.
At a minimum, I would think a list of “The top ten most asked questions” would be easy to list, easy to answer, and time saving for all involved.

Has this been considered by the moderators?

Some of you may be wondering why this fool with dialup is interested in Limewire (on a competing file sharing system it took me over 24 hours to download one LP/CD).
My daughter has virtually no ‘puter savvy, but is fortunately enough to have broadband and an interest in tunes. I am outfitting her with a peripheral hard drive, CD/DVD burner, and other tools to add to our mutual Library. I expect Limewire to be one of those tools.
I have 75 gigs of MP3s, but 99% of it is straight from hard copy, original CD or vinyl. I now need to fill in many gaps, and find file sharing to be the logical avenue.

I have only been ripping and burning for about 9 months, which is when I bought my first MP3 (Zen touch 40G).

I am slowly catching on to this MP3 tagging business, but am woefully inept. I am using WMP10, (and the Creative, of course). I find most MP3 users I am in contact with, simply dump files of tunes from one container to another, and I am trying to build a well organized Library.

When I was making my own 8 tracks, I had all 200 vinyls listed on individual 3x5 cards with titles and play length noted, so I could record with no crossover during a track. When cassette came along, I thought I was in heaven.
With digital, I am truly in my own little music heaven.

Try to look up "Exact Audio Copy" and "LAME Encoder" on Google, then dump the inferior WMP. Then you can look down on Heaven (BTW that is for ripping your CDs for backup) You will find guides on the net as well for setting it up perfect. Takes an hour or so if you have never done it, but you only have to do it once if you save the profile. Making 320 Kbps mp3 using LAME is the best you can get without going for lossless format (takes up a lot more space)

BTW a FAQ is slowly being considered, but since the site De*als with so many issues it would be too long.

The Sticky threads in "Limewire Tips and Tricks" forum are a good start

sleepless

Thanks for the heads up. I've never been thrilled with WPM.

I noticed that the stickies are a rudimentary FAQ for LimeWire list.
I'm always amazed at how many visitors are logged on. This board is helping a lot of users.
