Default Thanks

Thank you for your advice of which I have instantly taken on board. If spyware or adware was put onto my computer will it still be there even though I have uninstalled that version of frostwire and what do they do? I have reinstalled it via your official address thank you.
Cheers

Spyware is software that secretly collects user information through someone's internet connection without their knowledge, usually for advertising purposes.

Adware
will display banners and/or popups advertising products, while another program's running.

You might not have any malware at all, but some scam versions of p2p apps do install this crap. You could always run these below to see what's on your computer. They're both good, free programs & I'd recommend them. Just remember to keep them updated.

ad-ware __(FREE)

Spybot - Search & Destroy __(FREE)

Also make sure that you're using a good Anti_virus program. Keep it updated & scan all files that you download before opening them. There are heaps of infected files around & you do have to be really careful. There are lots of good stickies all over the different forum sections...check them out.

Default More adware questions

I am learing so much, and it is getting scarier by the minute. I clicked bravely on your connection, and yes it was free to find out that I have 175 of something not right, and now to correct them I have to pass over some money, and naturally I am a bit cautious about this sort of thing now. Can I truly trust this one? I have downloaded lots of songs, about 200, is this dangerous in itself. I have norton antivirous up to date. I appreciate your help, Cheers

No, you don't have to pay anything! They're both free. Maybe you clicked to download 'Ad-Aware SE Plus'...that one costs $.

Ad-Aware:
Click on that link in my last post, then click the 'home' tab on the Lavasoft page. In the top right corner you'll see an option to download Ad-Aware SE Personal...download that. I've been using it for ages. To update, click on the blue world icon.

Spybot S&D:
Click on the link in my last post & choose a mirror to download (try any one).
To update, click on the blue world icon.

I use them both. Just remember to update before doing a scan. The help options (you'll see it on both) have lots of info about how to use the programs.
