Default file extension search results

It was suggested that my first post be to introduce myself, so hello everyone; I don't think there's even one site that I put posts(threads) on, so forgive me in advance if I'm not exact in trying to resolve my issue. My system operates Windows XP Professional. I have installed LimeWire before on my Desktop and rarely had this file extionsion return results problem. Now I am networking through my laptop and earlier today, my searches were speedy, multiple and 90 percent were MP3 files (which is what I MUST use for playing. As the day progressed (within a few hours of my search; it became obvious that my search results were not only becoming VERY limited - one or two - the first usually being some sort of ZIP file and maybe a couple after that always and only with the wm or wma file format with xx.x KBs vs. mp3's being x,xxx+ KBs. I have tried saving the file under the mp3 extension format but either the program doesn't allow it or I've not been able to figure out how to do it. I do know that just glancing over the multitude of file extensions, there's NONE thatcan or want to use/download. The file name will be exactly what I'm looking for - word for word - but not downloadable. The one time I did try to open one of them, it sent me through several websites and produced no results.

Sure would appreciate any feedback on this. It was a rough week for me and I'm quite exhausted so again, please forgive the rambling but I'd like to resolve this ASAP.

Nice to be on the forum site now, but in all honesty hope I don't have to use it often...

Thanks so much,
Robyn

Hi Robyn,

to the forums, hope I can help.

There are a lot of fake files on the network and the spammers have programs that automatically return results for whatever you search for(autogenereted spam results). You can find more info in this thread: Fake files showing up in search results

Try the suggestions in this thread to block hosts that are known to spam the network: No search results-(How to filter bad ip's)

More tips in this thread: How to find music(and movies).
