Default Files are all trash

In the past 3 days or so I have noticed that any file I am looking for, music, movies, images, etc. Every single item except for maybe 2 of them, they all have the trash can to the left of them. Last week everything was working fine. All of them had stars next to them, except maybe one or two...which is understandable. But for things that have over 200 matches, at least 175 are junk.

Why is this?

Oh, I am using Mac Limewire

Default yeah

yeah it's quite disturbing BUT
you have to learn how to deal with files and with limewire users (who are the ones who put signs like the garbage one)

for instance:

1) i have downloaded hundreds of mp3 files WITH the garbage sign and none of them was a fake : all of them were ok

2) when you're looking for a movie, there is a trick : when you put the cursor on the file and you do NOT get any information about the size (like 512x288), it's a fake! do not download it!

understood? the sign does not mean a lot at all

What you see marked as junk is determined by your own junk filter settings. Other users have absolutely no bearing on the files that you see marked as junk.

The filter has to be trained over time...if it looks like too many files are being marked as junk, relax the filter a bit. Or, you can forget training data altogether & start from scratch It can take quite a while until the filter's working to your satisfaction & so it's a good idea to keep displaying 'junk'...often you have to go through & mark files as 'not junk'. It's part of training the filter.

This thread is long but it has some helpful info

thanks for your comment, birdy

i did not know the signs were computed by my filter (i will have a look)

so, how do you explain this:
i put a garbage sign to the file "steven spielberg pranked call" (the one we all get, unfortunately), the sign stays for a while and then disappear?!?!?

Hey KDZA, Try this if you want to stop some of the junk search results (.ie) Pranked...

Try filtering out the following file extensions for a much better search result. .wma, .exe, .rar, .html, .com, .zip, .mov. Go to Tools > Options > Filters > Keywords. After you put the extensions in to block, hit apply and then OK. This will clean up a ton of crap. Another smart thing to do is look up files with Bitzi before downloading. I have found the best and safest movie files are avi. Hope this helps.

I am a member of one forum and there are fake sharing hosts' IP addresses published. If I find fake files,I usually use "browse host" button and when there is nothing or only FAKE files,so then I usually write this host's IP to the *.txt document(called LimeWire Fake Sharing hosts IP list),which I share and I publish these IPs at 5-8 internet forums and pages.
That's my COOL punishment for fake uploaders.

Those trash cans are really growing on my view of Limewire. I have downloaded some marked trash and they seem fine. Altho I did pick up a PUP the other day, I'm not sure it was on this P2P, I'm most suspecting Bittorrent. Comments, sugggestons and/or advice welcome here.

Also another question, I used to use file size as a guide to what's false and what's not, I didn't use Limewire for a while and now I forgot those sizes... any one remember? Thanks

What you see marked as junk depends on your own junk filter setup. If you're starting to see lots of good files marked as junk...try relaxing the filter a bit & mark the good files as 'not junk'. The filter 'learns' over time & it's not perfect
Junk Filter

I'd be wary of files smaller than 2000 KB. Always keep your AV updated & scan downloads before you open them! Make sure that you've got some good antispy/adware programs as well. These are free & pretty good

AVG Antispyware (formerly Ewido)

I see this common misconception (no offense meant) among a lot of Limewire users. You are the only one using your own junk filter. Limewire's programming is marking these files as junk. It is going by whatever pattern you use to mark junk. You are meant to train the filter over time. If you mark small file sizes as junk, LImewire will assume that you do not want small files and will mark others as junk. Sometimes it does this with specific words in the file. This is the way it is supposed to work. However, I have not had the junk filter really work yet. Files I mark as junk show up again as not junk. So I don't really bother anymore.
