Default how do i burn movies with nero startsmart?

ok i think it is called nero startsmart and i have windows xp pro,i recently downloaded VLC media player to actually see the movies i had downloaded because my windows media player would not work, something about not having the right codecs? so my first question is how do i burn the movie onto a disk? i know how to burn music files but havent figured out the movie part. and is there a way to view these movies on my windows media player?because i really dont want all these extra programs on my computer if i dont need them. should i just remove WMP if i now have VLC? i also have a media player through my cell phone (nokia suite) so something has got to go!

See if this helps.
Making a DVD Video using Nero 7 Premium

If your WMP is missing codecs, you'll have to install codecs before you'll be able to watch movies with WMP! Here are links to codec packs, the XP Codec Pack & K-Lite are popular.
CODECs list for Movies/Alternate players / Video help forums/ video-mp3 fixers

It's up to you which media player(s) you keep or ditch. Have a look at them all & work out which one(s) you like best...which ones have the best features, which are user friendly

To find out what version of WMP you have, click on help > about WMP & you'll see.

Hi Leah, Me personally would definately do away with WMP. I hate it, but thats just me. You can try going to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Program, and after it populates you should be able to scroll down to see what version Nero you have. I am not a Nero user so I can't tell you how to burn movies with Nero. Sorry

You will have to convert the file to DVD format first before you burn. Also the safest video files to download are AVI Files and always use Bitzi to check the files before you download.

The two best video to dvd programs I have found to date are "ConvertXtoDvd" & "WinAvi video converter". Out of the two ConvertX is probably the most user friendly when it comes to converting video to dvd`s that will play in your home player. Obviously I am not suggesting that anyone should infringe copyright by downloading a film then converting to dvd, merely suggesting that if someone were to create a homemade film of their own they could then convert to dvd with these programs.
