LW downloads used to go right into a folder on my desktop where I could burn for home use. It no longer does this. Can I burn directly from LW?

You can't burn files with LW, you'll need another program like WMP or itunes for that. You can change the location where LW saves files to by opening LW and going to Tools>Options>Saving, and change it from there.
You shouldn't save files directly to your desktop. It's better to create a shortcut on your desktop to the folder they're in like your "My Music" folder.
