Default Not many search results

I have just downloaded Limewire. I have used it in the past but not for a while. My Operating system is Vista. I have full green bars, so my connection is excellent. When i do a search it only provides me with maybe 2 lines of results. I have had my nephew do the exact same search and it gives him a page and a half using the same keywords. Please help.. Thanks

Go to LW's menu bar, View menu -> Show Hide Connections. Then right-click heading bar & tick option to show vendor/version. Now take a careful look at the ultrapeers you are connected to. If you see one that is not LW version 4.18, then select it & press Remove button. Wait ... you may partially lose connection a little. Wait until LW settles & finds a new ultrapeer. Then try your search again.

Thank you for your quick response. I have just looked at the Ultrapeer connections and they r all version 4.18.8. I have also just downloaded a song that did show in the results and now I cant play it. It also found a MALWARE, which my avast picked up and has dealt with.. Confused!!!

'Some' days search results are not good. I've found that myself. But it does not usually last too many days. Sometimes just a day, sometimes a few.
Changing an ultrapeer will not necessarily do any harm however. Some ultrapeers may not be handling messages very well. Two reasons for getting rid of old version ultrapeers ... one is many spam ultrapeers use older versions. Another is, with the older versions a person could 'cheat' into becoming an ultrapeer .. when their LW is not behaving well enough to really be an ultrapeer. Thus giving poor ultrapeer responses. Perhaps because their uploads & downloads are saturated.

an ultrapeer helps people connect to the network. LW Basic users need to be connected to 3 ultrapeers, pro users 5. Search messages tend to travel across them. So in a word they are go-betweens. Someone who is an ultrapeer gets the advantage of being able to connect to many ultrapeers themselves. They can usually also download from many more hosts per file than the average user.

As I mentioned in my previous post, some days search returns are poor. But this is usually only temporary lasting a few days or so.

Means you are simply connected to an ultrapeer. The ultrapeer helps filter out unnecessary messages. Leafs connect to ultrapeers in order to connect to the network.

Not all ultrapeers are good. There are some spam ultrapeers out there. Also, some people using earlier versions of LW would 'force' themselves to become ultrapeers when their LW didn't really behave well in that mode, thus affecting other's searches & connections. LW tried to stop people doing that in later versions of LW. There are also 'dud' ultrapeers, deliberately set up to affect the network. Those ones will block search messages.

So sometimes if searches are bad (continual zero search results), it can be worth removing the ultrapeer you have been connected to the longest. However, depending on person it may take from a few seconds to a few minutes to get a stable replacement ultrapeer & good connection back.
