Thumbs down HELP!! LW is uploading UNSHARED files

WTF is THAT about?
I have LW set to ONLY share ONE file on my computer, MUSIC.
I'm checked off to be an ultrapeer (I have Broadband) and since I've volunteered to be an ultrapeer..........LW is sharing UNshared folders!!!
NOT COOL. AND IT KEEPS SHARING MY UNSHARED FOLDERS EVEN WHEN IT'S DISCONNECTED. (Even tho I have it set to 'shut down immediately')
Please help me fix this before I uninstall Limewire and stop using it forever.

No need to shout (caps)

It would have really helped if we knew what version of LW you're using.

If you're using LW 4 go tools > options > sharing. There, you'll see which folders are being shared. Untick the box beside folders that you don't want to share > apply > ok.
And if you don't want to share downloaded files that are saved to an unshared folder, untick that box > apply > ok.

Also check to see whether partial file sharing's enabled. Tools > options > sharing > advanced.
If partial file sharing's enabled then you'll be sharing files as you download them - before the download's complete. Untick the box if you don't want to share partial files > apply > ok.

If you're using LW 5 then check out the threads below for advice about unsharing files & folders.
LimeWire 5.0 - Adding folders to library, sharing/unsharing files, removing folders - Windows.
LW 5.1 Adding folders to library, sharing/unsharing files, removing folders - Windows.

To turn off partial file sharing in LW 5, go tools > options > downloads. Untick the box to share files downloaded from the P2P network with the P2P network > ok. This will disable partial file sharing but it'll also mean that you'll need to go into P2P Network in LW's sidebar if you want to share those newly downloaded files with other people.

Having UP capabilities enabled shouldn't effect what you're sharing.

If changing things within LW's options doesn't help, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

After you've deleted the prefs folder & restart LW, you'll need to go through LW's setup wizard again. When you do, pay careful attention to which folders are shared by default - there'll be a page in the setup wizard that shows this info. There, you can choose which folders that you want to share. And double check which folders are being shared when you reset LW's options to your own preferences

Thumbs up Thank You!!

Deleting the preference file in Vista fixed the problem.
Yes, I have remnants from many versions of Limewire. I haven't deleted them because it looks like new versions use some of the old info.
I have 4.18.8. (I tried v.5 for about three minutes before freaking out and going back to v.4)
No, the folder was not listed for sharing. No, the files / extensions were not checked for sharing. No, new downloads were not shared. And the files were not showing up as shared in my library...but they were still being shared.

Been using LW for years and not had problems with it. Been using Vista for 9 months and had nothing BUT problems. With everything.

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP.

Sometimes people have incomplete files that are a part of Partial File Sharing. This probably didn't apply to your scenario but just a thought. I know I've sometimes been surprised at sharing a file that was not in my library (ie: saw people uploading such files in upload window).

Question HMMMMMMMMM.... The problem is back.

It seems I cannot share ANY of the video files/folders I have without sharing ALL my video files AND any new downloads regardless of what folder I save them to (even UNshared folders!)
4.18.8
(tools>opitions>shared folders)
I have ONLY the folders in the share box that I want to share.
(Under legend) Folder is fully shared including all sub folders. THAT IS NOT AN OPTION AND CANNOT BE UNCHECKED.
And below that, it's either:
Share new downloads to unsaved folders OR
New downloads saved to shared folders will be shared. (Both are the Same thing, no?)
Partial sharing is not checked, btw.

The only way I seem to be able to keep it from happening is to NOT share ANY video folders/files and to disable ultrapeer.

Go to Library window, right-click any files or folders you do not wish to share. Files in RED are not being shared.

Personally I occasionally ban hosts from downloading from my 8,000+ files if I suspect they are non-sharing leechers. But that's just me.

Question *sigh*

I hear you. I can't be bothered blocking individual IP's, too lazy.
I set my sharing so that 10 people can each download 5 files each while I'm downloading and my upload bandwidth set at half my download bandwidth.

When I'm not using LW to download, I go set my upload speed to 100%, decrease the download to nothing and increase the slots and # of files for each up-loader.
I don't mind sharing or being an ultrapeer (since I have b-band) but this crap with LW constantly sharing my unshared folders is really pissing me off.

I have to keep going into library and highlighting and keep 'do not share'ing and keep killing the uploads of UNshared video files it randomly chooses to share!!

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!?!?

I have a MOVIE folder and a bunch of sub-folders inside. I tried to share some of the subfolders..but LW starts sharing more and more UN shared files out of the main folder, MOVIES.

I tried completley moving the folders I do not want to share to a whole separate location and locked the folder/files......LW still started sharing them.

If I disable Ultrapeer - it ends the problem. If I only share my MUSIC folder - it ends the problem.

What the Hell - I don't even know why anyone would want to be downloading vids of my retarded cats and vids of me & my buddies 4x4 mudding. They're all sanyo.mp4 files with no names. It's not like they're even labeled anything interesting
...sanyo001...sanyo002....sanyo003....sanyo004 etc.

P.S. I have only 300 music files and 212 video files!! How do you fit 8k files?? I have to delete any movies after I watch them to leave space on my 'puter.

I have 4 internal 1 GB drives. Though only used a portion of them for such files.

Did you disable sharing files as soon as you download them in settings? aka 'Share Finished Downloads', in Sharing option. Though sounds like this is not the problem.

In LW's share options, you can drop the main folder, just share the sub-folders underneath by adding each at a time. Else simply as suggested in previous post, right-click & choose stop sharing folder. For multiple files, hold down SHIFT key to select multiples.

As suggested earlier, you could start your settings from scratch by deleting the LW preferences but must be done whilst LW is closed. Sounds like your LW preferences might be partially corrupted.
