Default New Limewire User: Basic Security Concerns

I hope someone can provide a novice the most important basics in order to protect myself from Big Brother. Must I use Tor or similar? When buying Limewire Pro do you use your regular email or Hushmail thru say Tor? I am trying to grasp these basic principles you pro's use for security. Any help is greatly appreciated.

afaik pro offers no better security than anything else...

I definitely use PeerGuardian2 to supplement my firewall, and certainly the use of TOR wouldn't hurt...

as far as email, its just a way for verification....in the big picture LimeWire is going to have your payment details, so them having an email is not much really...

Thanks ALOT for the reply. Tor seems to be problematic in terms of connectivity.
When /DL Peeguardian 2 it says External Mirror 1 or 2. Where do I d/l it?

Default Hiding from the Authorities

SlaveToTheLime

If you are looking for a way to protect your computer from all the bad things that are out there on the gnutella network and internet then forum members can offer advice on that.

However, you seem to want to hide from the authorities and if that is the case then you have come to the wrong place.

I understand that in the US you have the "Patriot Act" which give the authorities the right to look into and investigate any part of your life they want to. And in Europe there are various European wide and national laws that do the same thing.

And I am sure that you have seen in the media, both national and international, the clamp down P2P users, producers and facilitators.

Therefore, you cannot expect any legitimate company, like the Limewire Org., to offer ways to circumvent regulations and tracking systems put in place by the authorities, if they did the government would close them down.

So, get a good firewall, Peer Guardian 2, a good AV app, two or three anti-spyware apps and, above all, practice safe surfing.

Indeed, if the files you want can find their way to your computer, so can the feds. They have years of experience in tracking people via 'anonymous' links and multiple back doors, through numerous countries.

If Big Bro doesn't know something about you, it's only because he hasn't been interested. Most people would be dumbfounded if they knew how much BB already knows about each of us common folk.

Prior to '89, I was asking, "Do you think the KGB has info on virtually each person in the Soviet Union? Do you think the FBI has equal or better funding than the KGB? Do you remember JE Hoover saying, 'A file on everyone'? So what makes you think the FBI (or Treasury) doesn't know about you?"

It's thirty years later, the FBI budget grows, and data storage gets cheaper. The US even has it's own gulag! And the President now has the power to declare anyone a 'terrorist'. Meanwhile, we're distracted by new rules, intended to 'protect us'. In Israel, where they have legitimate concerns about terrorists, airline passengers are not required to remove their shoes, and they can carry liquids on-board. (Even our Sec for Homeland Security says those measures do not offer us any protection; but the rules remain in place.) Oh well, I guess we should be happy that the 'shoe bomber' didn't instead have the fuse sticking out his rear; pre-flight check-in would take on a whole new meaning.

I've known Bob Mueller (current FBI Dir) since he was a Fed prosecutor in San Francisco. He's a pretty nice guy, and highly intelligent, but I would not even ask him if p-p could ever somehow be tied to domestic terrorism. If that happened, even the RIAA would seem like a bunch of nice guys.
