Yes. It's the official Apple Quicktime format .. Apple's equivalent to AVI. So that means it's a container file & the actual file format inside the container might be anything.

Generally (not always), .mov files you find on the gnutella network are Porn advertisments, short video excepts. And they appear to use some strange video format within the .mov container.

Some tips about videos here Movie download issues (click on blue link) (2nd last post has information on best video formats.)

Limewire 5 blocks .exe files by default; I guess that's why your search results indicate only mov files by that name. I would guess that all of those mov files are completely bogus, containing just what LotR described. You can allow .exe files to be shown in search results, but I advise against it.

Downloading software files via p-p is always risky, and more so via the Gnutella network. Even when the file appears to contain the actual software, quite often the installers are messed up, rendering the software useless. Most of us here strongly suggest you avoid exe com mov wmv zip and rar files. There's enough risk in dowloading music and video files.

If you really want software that you can't find on one of the free sites, (tucows, download. com, majorgeeks, etc.), then you should probably look for torrents that have a number of positive comments about the file. Still, backup everything, set a system restore point, and if possible, run the new software in a virtual machine.

Blackhorse 70V said stay away from:

exe com mov wmv zip and rar files.
. To that list I would also add .pdf, .scr, .pif, .dll, or any other compressed file format or files with unusual file extensions.
