Question

My only question is what if you don't have any files that have the name, "Winupdate(s)" in it. The only one near that file name that I found was swupdtr.exe. Thanks to the list of how to get the virus off that was prepared by kc0rkx_finch
, I was able to stop limewire from poping up all the time, and remove all of the zip files that messed up my system. But I still cannot access my Task manager using ctrl+alt+del. Also when I go into my Registry Editior, there are some files that it won't let me delete. I still get a Virus warning from my anti-virus software when I boot up as well though, (AVG-FREE edition). Does anyone have any more ideas that could help me, I will be very much appreciative. Thanks!

Thanks for the warning, but I was also a little bit unsure of it being gone, until I ran a couple of virus scans, a couple of adware/spyware scans, followed the directions 4 times and couldn't find the said file (from one of my previous posts) after the first deletion of it, and 1 or 2 restarts of my computer I was pretty sure. The fact that limewire doesn't open and close on its own now is my proof enough. Thank you again for your warning, it is good to see that there is some good people out there.

Im not sure I want to do this. My dad just restored everything on my computer once again without losing it. Everytime i make a different option (on those get rid of the bug instructions) my computer has this popup saying stuff like "are you sure you want to do this? it can make your computer inopperable.": and such.. i dont wanna cause more trouble than this damn computer is already in. .. ill ask my dad to do it.. but PLEASE let me know these instructions have been confermed by the limewire... people and such.

I looked at your other post and that is the only way I have any clue of what you are talking about. You should stick to your original thread if you want help figuring things out. It can become very confusing if you don't.

You can go to Norbies World and he will help you to see if you still have the virus the link below will take you there.

Ok I had a friend telling me about this. And gave me the topic to this. He said the virus has to be activated and I havent activated it yet.

Ok first off do I need to delete it before I activate in. Second off can I delete it without activating it. Because it's not poping up. Only when I click On limewire. I don't have xp of a task manager.

How can I get rid of it if I have Windows ME.

If you are talking about a file you have downloaded but havent opend yet then yes just delete it. If you delete it without opening it you will be fine.

No I have downloaded limewire and have been download stuff like aqua teen(tv episodes) and Antiflag musc videos.

My friend told me when you download limewire it gives you a virus when you try to take out the main limewire file. He said it happend to him. He said you just got to activate it. So I went into windows and deleted the limewire file. (Deleted) Then I looked agian and it came back.

I want to take precations and find out if it is activated and remove any possible viruses I may get or may already have.

I don't see anyone giving support on how to remove the virus for WindowsME.

(Note) I have no virus scan. My mcaffe virus scan never picks anything up anyway.

You Friend is wrong LimeWire does not give you a virus. But some of the files you downloaded may have viruses in them if you downloaded any files that were 851.7kb and opened them then you have a virus. It causes LimeWire to start up by itself every time you try to turn it off it restarts itself. If you have this virus or any other you can click on the link below it will take you to Norbie's website and he will help you get rid of it.

A little piece of advice never download anything off of P2P networks without having a up to date antivirus program you are just asking for a virus if you do. The link below is a link you should read and it has links in it to good free antivirus programs and spyware programs.

If you want to believe him go ahead. This is a user forum none of us work for LimeWire. There are literally millions of people using LimeWire. How many people do you think would use it if it caused viruses. I myself have installed and uninstalled LimeWire dozens of times with no viruses. Why don't you think about it for a minute.

Most people run XP now days so there are not allot of people running ME. That is why you don't see allot of ME post here.

OK I got proof now. I friend read what you said and he told me they don't know what there talking about. He is very intellegent and knows what he is talking about.

He's about to make a movie step by step how to activate the virus that limewire installed into the computer and I will post it here.

Please realize that you all might be at risk. I will post it as soon as he makes it.

One thing you should realize is before you post it make sure that you or he got your copy of LimeWire from the official source. There are allot of hacked versions of LimeWire out there. LimeWire is a open source program. If you do not know what that means then Goggle it for a more in depth explanation. Basically it means that anybody can get a copy of it then change the program if they wish they can add a virus to it or what ever they want.

The Link below will take you to the official site.

Ya thats were me and him got it from. It might take him a while though. He installed limewire. He opend the file to activate it then about 100 diffrent colors started to flash. So he is making a movie how to activate it and remove it.

He Got the virus in his system just to prove to me I had it.

Actually, your friend shows total ignorance in software operations, if he suggest activating the "supposed" virus then he is an idiot, its his type that viruses flourish on and spread to others, he a bleedin fool!

I like many others downloaded LW from an official site, I'm also very security minded, everything and I mean everything is scanned before installation, LW came up very clean!

I would suggest that your antivirus prog is either none existent or poorly installed, I also reckon if I was to probe your computer I would find 1000s of holes in your firewall, if indeed you have one, do not blame Limewire for your own ignorance.

And if your friend is using Windows ME, then he has a big problem, Windows ME was eventually taken off the market because it had huge security issues NOT because it was superceeded!

I would never take advice from anyone that still uses Windows ME, sheesh!!
