Question Limewire downloading problem

Hello all.

I'm using the latest version of LW and when I try to download certain files, they get corrupted. This always happens to any music file I try to download while some regular app files never get the right amount of connections while others have no problems at all.

Now the last case maybe hit or miss but when I go home, there is no problem what so ever. This leads me to think to two things.
1. The server where I am at for work is screening or blocking some of my downloads.
2. The limewire program has something wrong with it.

I have tried to delete and reinstall but nothin seems to help. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Can you explain what you mean by corrupted? (a) Do the files download & show corrupt beside the filename? (b) Or is it when you try to play them back, they don't play properly such as 20 mins of silence?

(a) Go to LW's prefs (command & comma) -> View -> Popups & select Revert to Default. At least LW will now ask you if you wish to continue downlding the files. If you had previously said no & ticked the option to always use that answer, then you won't be warned & the file will stop downlding at the point it detects the corruption.

The reason for corrupt files can be many. Such as non-configured firewalls, anti-virus & similar utilities that don't understand the file or aren't configured to let them pass properly or your no. #1 suggestion. The source might have a problem. The files may be already corrupt there or getting corrupt as they're uploaded for similar reasons. Another possibility is an old modem/router that simply isn't coping/translating properly.

I guess you could try downlding the identical file at home that showed up corrupt at work. See if the file really is corrupt or it's an issue at work. Try to be sure it's from the same sources.

The files would get all completed and when LW goes to verify them, that's when the corrupt message pops up.
All the files when downloaded at my house are fine. It's only when I try to use the computer at work that the problem happens. And yes I doubled checked to make sure the files are from the same source.

My office went to fiber-opt from ADSL. When it was on ADSL, there was never a problem. Only when they went to fiber-opt and when I upgraded LW did this problem start.
So I'm not sure as to what the real cause is. Now both my home and office comp run the same version of LW but I don't know if something went wrong when I upgraded at work or not.

I'm leaning towards that the server at work is blocking some-how but I don't know how. Plus, I can't ask them to allow LW to work with-out getting into trouble. Not that I'm downloading anything wrong or illegal, but since it's the work's network sys, probably not a good idea to let them know I'm downloading things on my personal computer on their network. Does this make any sense?

I've tried all the sorts of ways including what was suggetsed by you and no luck. Should I just give up on the music? It's mainly for my work for the kids I teach when I don't have a seasonal song or song of interest on me that I download at all. I guess I could just wait to get some time at home and do this but kind of sucks to do it that way. Any other advice on this?

Just as an experiment, try downlding some audio files from the magnet links here http://www.magnetmix.com/index.shtml Are these ones corrupt also? I think these are all wma I'm not sure (I hate wma with a passion!!! lol )

Oh I just realised you're a mac user. If you don't have mac's wmp then go for VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) to playback the wma files.

No dice.

All the files were corrupted. I just can't figure this one out. I even tried changing the port numbers with 0 luck on that end.

Most of the files I download have bad sound. Audio files have terrible lead vocals that are hardly audible. I've tried the suggestions and nothing is working. VLC didn't work for it either.

1. Try downlding audio mp3's that have a higher bitrate than 128 kbps.

2. Check your sound settings. Windows has built in FX & if accidentally activated will affect the sound.

3. If you're listening through headphones then check all connections are proper & there's not a stuffy plug or something.

greysky1,

You can access the settings for your audio devices from the control panel in windows. From your desktop click Start>Control Panel>Sounds, Speech, And Audio Devices. Then check your settings from there.

FX is an abbreviation for effects, i.e. sound effects.

I got it. Just a blond moment.....I tried that one already and made no difference to the problem. There might not be any fix for this and it's just alot of very bad files.
