I experience the same problem of not being able to open .dmg files (.sit files work fine). I receive error messages that warn that the file "does not have a recognized file type (-8816)". If you move the file to the desktop and double-click, it lauches LimeWire instead of DiskCopy(?). So after reading the other postings on this site, I am sure that somehow the file gets altered during the download so that DiskCopy does not recognize it as a normal .dmg file. How/If it can be modified (file/creator type) in order to get it to open...I don't know (there must be a way). Hopefully someone can help who has already solved the mystery?!

Have you tried to drop the .dmg file on the Disk Copy icon?
